I'm going with Tears of a Clown but it's tough.  I would argue that it's a perfect song and the arrangement and vocals are phenomenal.

Spaniel with a Short Tail

What's Going On or Mercy Mercy Me. Take your pick.

Solid choices.   Superstition is also an amazing song.

Don't Leave Me This Way?

It helps that these people could actually sing.

I also love the Coasters but I guess they're pre Motown.

Not what you asked, but Sam Cooke beats the crap out of anything Motown produced.

He had an enormous influence on soul music and Motown performers.  Otis Redding was a badass as well.  Why was Cooke killed?  I believe that was unsolved?  I just remember he was super young.

* It was ruled a justifiable homicide??  WTF?  What exactly happened??  Weird.

Anyone ever been to the Motown Museum? I live about 5 miles from it and still haven't been, although I've been wanting to go. I'm pretty sure there was a multi million dollar renovation to it recently also
