Outstanding press conference from Shaka.  Highly recommend putting aside the 23 minutes to listen to it.  So authentic - love listening to the guy.

Also, and this is related to the press conference, please don't ban me.  :D

There are have been a lot of great pressers this season, but Kolek and Shaka knocked it out of the park again. It has been said a million times, and hopefully another million, frickin Shaka gets it. I'll say it again, he is the best marketing department MU has had since Al.

Was just thinking about Shaka's words, especially about learning about other peoples stories and respecting/learning from others experiences. His message hit home to me and I think all scoopers would benefit from those words.

It is funny, I am 59y old and I have learned a shxtload of things listening to Shaka this year. One of my goals for my 60th birthday was to become a better person, both in business and my personal life and I truly have taken Shaka's message to heart. Aside from a great basketball season, I am very pleased with the life lessons I have learned this year. Team work, respect, preparation and positive energy really does mean something to me.

Not preaching, but I really have appreciated learning on how to be better person from Shaka. It has been cool seeing changes in my thinking and how I make decisions compared to just a few months ago.

Feels a little more genuine to me than the "bottle being tipped over" spiel from Buzz. I particularly like Shaka's "Approach vs Avoidance" mindset. I think that's a great way to live life.

That's the fastest 23 minutes ever.  He is just so great to listen to.  It will be a sad day when this amazing season ends.

Interesting tidbit from Kolek into the senior leadership that Morsell didn't adequately provide. Glad that Kolek, Shaka, and Oso got on the same page to build a team together. Or maybe I heard him incorrectly

Heard the same. Morsell and Elliott were the leaders but weren't "doing the necessary things to connect with everybody". Contrast Shaka talking about TKO taking Stevie out to dinner and connecting with the freshman even though his natural inclination would be to spend time with older players and staff.

I think he did say Morsell and Greg did not connect with the whole team

Shaka's pressers are always gold.  He is a brilliant man - wise, smart, genuine, humble, charismatic.  His impacts on these players lives will go beyond so much more than just basketball.   I feel any parent would feel their son would grow a ton on/off the floor under a coach like Shaka.

As Goose has said - Best hire at MU since Al McGuire.

I've not yet watched these pressers, but everything I read about Greg at Pitt this season is that he is being the 'imported' leader that Morsell was reportedly not, and that even Elliott himself wasn't last year at MU. So, Shaka's influence impacted Greg, even if he needed to move elsewhere to make it happen. Well done, Greg and Shaka.

Shaka and players are definitely not hiding that Daryl was more of a liability than a positive during the feb fade last year.

Great post Goose, absolutely spot on.

I listen to Shaka EVERY chance I get. Not only because I love MUbb, but also because he is thoroughly enjoyable and J think he makes me a better person.

He's incredible, I'm convinced he's a genius, a psychological savant and just an overall genuinely great person.

I already use shakaisms all the time with my assistants and front desk/management staff.

I have a new, very timid assistant that's extremely scared with everything she does. So, while working on a patient, I walked her thru avoidance goals versus approach goals and how she can't be afraid to make a mistake and has to approach every day without fear and not worry that I will get upset if she does something wrong. Maybe it was my imagination, but she seemed 10x better by the end of the work day.
The patient was even like that's incredible advice.

I start off all of our weekly/monthly meetings like Coach Shaka starts his timeouts- I give the staff 5-10 minutes to discuss "goods and bads" without me present.

At the most recent monthly I came up with the idea of everyone writing down on paper, anonymously, two things that they thought we could do as an office to be better, better to ourselves and each other and to better service our patients.
Single word answers.

I decided I'd lead the way and start things off as an example.
My words, you guessed it, relationships and connectivity.

Shaka is everywhere, he's everything for that group of young men, but his reach goes beyond that.
He is the right man at the right time for Marquette University and their basketball program.

I think that is awesome on the impact he is having is on your life as well. Not being a whack job, but there are tangible changes in my life that I attribute to the words and actions of Shaka. Seeing someone have success creates credibility to their words and Shaka's best words really do have meaning in basketball and in life.

As for the right time for Shaka and MU, I am sticking with my belief from day one of the Shaka era, that his hire will prove to be the greatest hire in MU history. Best part, I think basketball will play second to his overall contribution to the University.

between your doc and goose-well done!

shaka has so much to offer, what did the other teams miss?  or was it just destiny for shaka to return to his home state?  in any event, we must realize and enjoy what we have.  he is the type of guy people want to hear speak.  i am sure, not unlike most people, he has taken a little bit from all of his experiences and now was ready to put more of the pieces of the puzzle together here at marquette and the picture cannot be more clear.

the effect shaka is having on people-his players, the marquette community and beyond is priceless.  could you imagine being able to listen to shaka every day and then going out and WINNING?  oh, and then there's that basketball thing he's pretty good at too.  we only get to hear bits and pieces and look at the effect he is having on us.

good people realize when they have a good thing. they gravitate toward it because they want more of it.  shaka is contagious.  his character is impeccably humble.  these are the types of people who are always looking to improve and to improve those around them-i hesitate to use the word savant only because i don't think shaka would label himself as such, so i'm going to say my best definition would be a very charismatic "savant-like" person.  who doesn't want to hang with someone like that?

Shaka said the light bulb went off when he realized he's not coaching himself as he would like t9 be coached, he is coaching the players and needs to figure out what they need.  He is a good manager because he knows that you can't coach all of the players the same.   They have individual needs, skills, thin*s to work on, personalities - and Shaka coaches them as individuals who must contribute and make better the team - they must care about each other because that is what makes a great team.

He is smart to learn from his experience and put that into action -  very refreshing coach, I love hearing him speak, and he is insightful genuinely about the game, people, relationships and life.   A superb fit for Marquette, and Marquette for Shaka.
