With all the comings and goings, is it really a roster exodus (like the Durham Associated Press made it out to be) or just three seniors who were going to have to be replace anyways leaving (Torrence was going to leave before Shaka)?

It is discuss here on Cracked Sidewalks http://www.crackedsidewalks.com/2021/04/this-so-called-marquette-roster-exodus.html

If you can play overseas or for a team that's more poised for a postseason run, then have at it.   Don't waste a prime year of your Earnings Shelf Life or give up the opportunity to play and win a game in the postseason.  Once in a lifetime opportunity and it's better for MU anyways so Shaka can start building a culture with a group that will be here several years rather than be out the door next year.

I don't view the departure of 4-year players for other schools as an exodus. This is a one-off situation where guys are getting an unprecedented 'bonus year' due to a once-in-a-lifetime global health crisis.

IMO, the better measure is the departure rate of guys with less than 4 years already played. And current numbers  show that we're doing very well in keeping those guys around.

An exodus is a conclusion arrived at from a cursory rather than in depth look by someone not really familiar with Marquette's program. With jobs in journalism so hard to come by, why are any lazy reporters still around?
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

duke exodus?  https://balldurham.com/2021/03/31/duke-basketball-transfers-turmoil-durham/

they have had four players from their freshman class leave, hurt entered the draft, and goldwire and tape entered the portal...

This response article seems a bit butthurt. Are you obligated to address every article that any sports writer, that doesn't shone MUBB in the brightest light?
The writer called it an exodus. So what.
Bigger things happening than pointing out what some guy said of our fantastic last week of MUBB. It will be Ok.

Yep.

And not only that, but this was a brief, fact-filled AP article that was run by Yahoo ... and it was Yahoo, not the AP and certainly not the journalist, who came up with the headline. (Most writers don't provide their own headlines.)

This article didn't even put Marquette in a bad light. It was a series of facts. It listed the guys who left MU, stated how common transfers are, and listed both the transfers Shaka brought in and the recruits Shaka got to choose MU after decommitting from Texas.

The AP did similar articles that started with Shaka's haul and only mentioned departed MU players later. Here's one:

Indeed, reading that article, it looks to me like whoever was editing Yahoo Sports that day decided to flip the article to emphasize who left Marquette.

Sites like Yahoo (as well as newspapers and broadcast outlets) pay AP for the right to publish AP work. Those companies can and do repurpose AP's stuff.

I don't care how they try to sell it, an exodus of players from a sub 500 team is probably a good thing.. Time to rebuild.

But there has been no exodus.  3 seniors left, and Sy transferred.  So far....there's a lot of continuity.

Because they (sports writers specifically) can often write whatever they want without being held accountable. Gary Parrish sucked up to Wojo in his early days at Marquette, talking about the good 'ole days at Duke rather than Marquette. Others have their own agendas, sometimes plugging their favorite  conference. ESPN helped engineer the dissolution of the original Big East behind the scenes.

Again, no sportswriter did what you claim in this article. It was a headline chosen by some Yahoo editor, and the flipping of an AP article that most objective readers would think actually was favorable to Marquette.

Don't generalize, please.
