Has anybody here tried yellowspot? I'm a huge green spot fan and considering snagging a bottle.

Also anybody tried the Kirkland or Trader Joe's scotches? Just curious if they're decent since one of the Aldi brands in Ireland was great

I tried Yellow Spot a few years back and liked it a lot. While I can't give nuanced taste descriptions like some people can, I can tell you it is sweet like a traditional Irish whiskey, and remarkably smooth.

Interesting thanks. Is it worth usual the price point? I was surprised it's about $10 more than green spot but most people rate green spot better

I can't compare because I haven't tried the other, and honestly don't drink too much. But I was out with friends at a local whisky bar, so I gave it a shot.

I'm really digging the rum cask trend. Balvenie Caribbean and Tullamore DEW Run Cask are my preferences right now.

Teeling Single Grain is also a excellent option for a mid level Irish.

Decided to run to my local liquor store and pick up a rum cask bottle of Glenlivet and its great. Lighter than what I'd usually drink this time of year, would definitely keep it as a summer whiskey and try a few others.

The rum casks get some of the sugar from the rum seeping into the whiskey. A little citrus, but not overpowering at all. A complimentary flavor.  It takes some of the bite off of the Irish that you get from the third distillation.

The Tullamore Rum Cask is very reasonably priced too.

Re Irish Whiskey, I have found that Redbreast 12 is the best dollar for dollar value (love Green Spot as well) IMO.

For scotch, I am an Islay guy and love Ardbeg 10 yr as a go to. Incredibly peaty so it is an acquired taste though.

When I was living in Ireland I had dingle batch 2. I bought my friend batch 3 for his bday and batch 4 four mine. Batch 3 is my favorite so far but I do not understand the love they get compared to some of the other recent distilleries other than they're in the Gaeltacht where people visit.

I don't drink gin often anymore so I haven't tried that.

I appreciate Red Breast for what it is but it's sweet almost to the point of bourbon IMO especially the 15. Next time you try Teeling (or Slane) eat Walkers Shortbread with it and it'll bring out the flavors.

I have not. When I read the part about marketing I was worried you were going to ask about Proper No. Twelve but know you have far better taste than that!

Haha I won a bottle actually and that's the only reason I've drank that swill before. And for the record the slane and talisker I've both had before are delicious. It's the Drumshanbo that's pretty much equal to an aged version of what me and my buddy just put out.

Disappointed to hear that.  I liked their gin and I've had just about every gin ever made.

My wife picked up Barr an Uisce Wicklow Rare this afternoon. A bourbon barrel aged, sherry barrel finished Irish.  Looking forward to trying it tonight after painting!
