Would everyone writing off this poor season due to covid be celebrating the grittiness and effort if the team overachieved?

Seems a bit disingenuous.

Spending any time thinking about a Wojo team overachieving is a waste of time.

I also don’t put much stock into the COVID excuse. Our biggest COVID issue was missing practice time in the preseason. We looked a ton better earlier in the year than at the end. If we started really badly and gelled as the year went on, I’d maybe give that argument some credibility.

We ALWAYS look better earlier in the year than later under Wojo.

Covid is just the next excuse in a long line of them for Wojo's failures as a coach.

If MU is going to play the victim card for Woj because of Covid, I have little sympathy.

I think there is an interesting dynamic here.....

Marquette protects its players by essentially bubbling them at the "Ambassador".....

Xavier lets their players "canoodle" with the mainstream student body......

Marquette plays all their games but their "mental state" was "done" by the end of the yaar.....

Xavier misses a third of its games because of COVID and contact tracing.....

Neither team fulfills its "desire"......

So clearly their has to be a "middle ground" which neither of these two schools figured out.....

Marquette's basketball team's mental health was certainly depleted at the end......

Why does anyone think Wojo would manage this challenge any better than the others he has faced (and largely failed at) over the last seven years?

I don't think this was all a Wojo decision......I am pretty sure this strategy went all the way to the top at the university.....

The Bball team is big business......

This went all the way to the president.....Not that Wojo did not have major input.....

I will not give him all the blame on this one......

There are plenty of other issues where he is certainly directly at fault.....

Coach Wojo spoke at the Big East Press Conference. But did Coach Wojo speak on 94.5 ESPN with Homer and Tony after the game
Guessing Coach Wojo did not

No doubt this year has been stressful on college athletes and all the students.  That said, the COVID situation is common among all teams.  If anything, given MU’s spend on our program, we probably had an advantage over most other teams.  What I’m concerned about is a weakness at the top of the program.  If Wojo is filling the kid’s heads with ideas that they have it so hard and this is so tough, they’ll follow that loser attitude.  Given our up and down performance, I don’t blame the team bu the coaching.

I was all for his hire but never understood his last extension given how poorly he’s performed.  Are we committed to a winning basketball program?  If so, Wojo is gone within a week.  I don’t have a lot of faith here as these MU leaders are the same that ran off Buzz.   >:(

Whether it is racial injustice, COVID, mental health or whatever, it always seems there is off-the-court focus that takes the attention and priority away from the team prioritzing winning.  Is it great and wonderful that our program is bigger than basketball? Of course it is, but all these other topics clearly affect our kids and program more than other programs - at least that's the narrative being shared, apparently, from those within the program.

Unfortunately, it does beg the question: does our school, leadership, coaches and players actually priotize winning?  Or does it want the perception of wanting to win, while really focusing on other areas that can advance the values of the university?

By all accounts, it really does not prioritize winning first and foremost.

Why aren’t they looking at the comprehensive view of his tenure here. He’s stunk for a long time. This season is the tipping point.

Because that would require logic.

Crazy DODDS went waaay off the rails ...

“ no other team “ went through what
MU did ... “ no fans “ can imagine it ..

COVID affected MU worse than ANY other team...

Really delusional

Dodds is a joke. No objectivity. He clearly does not was to lose his court side access.

I vote "B" but because of "A", not Covid.

If MU was going to use Covid as their excuse for ineptitude, they should have canceled the entire season, aina?

I don't have a ton of connections but do know someone who teaches at MU that talks to some on the BOT and the COVID excuse being used is being parroted there.

And that's Lovell's point of view, too.

It just doesn't seem like wins and losses matter all that much anymore at MU.

E.  Koalas are cute and fluffy, which is more than the other choices give us.

why are facts always alluded to as excuses? Fact: covid was hard on all programs some more than others.  Fact Lewis missed efeectively 7 games in the middle of the conference season.Might MU won a couple of those games with him?  probably.  Nova looks not to good without Gillespie, not an excuse just a fact

It goes a lot farther for a coach to admit they could have/should have done better in trying circumstances.  No one is going to feel sorry for you when you ask for it

Success gets you the benefit of the doubt. Lack of success just gets you the doubt. So why do these come across as excuses? Maybe because the issues this year are the same issues that have plagued the Wojo era without Covid etc.
