It's OK, reading back at the Dom James thread, PRN didn't like him either. Character revealed.

Is this type of provocation really necessary?  Can't we just congratulate Markus on an historic achievement?

Pretty much cements that 0 will be headed to the rafters some day.  And it is well deserved.

Agreed. Partly due to him being only our 4th consensus first-teamer, and partly for his off-court conduct and other extracurriculars (i.e., his participation on the NCAA Men's Basketball Oversight Committee).

Congratulations Markus!

We will miss you greatly.

Amazing player. Wonderful Warrior. Thanks, Markus.

Lennys Tap

Markus has been exceptional and then some on and off the court. The First team AA selection is a well deserved honor. Congrats, Markus, on a wonderful year/career at Marquette!

Dean was on a powerhouse 1970 team.

Butch played with a top 20 pick and 2nd team AA in Bo, a 2nd round pick in Whitehead,  another second rounder in Toone, and Boylan who got drafted but didn't play.

Wade had Diener and Novak, and RJax who arguably was a better player than any of the MU supporting cast this year.

Markus had a team of guys who are nice role players at best.

Holding Markus at arms length because he didn't have the team around him the others did is unfair to his greatness and accomplishments and smacks of the overwrought history worship Marquette fans can trend towards. Not retiring his jersey is petulant and petty

I think that may be a different definition of consensus - there are at least 5 "consensus" in every year on that list.  Good point on 2 time AA for Markus

Chones was awesome, and probably should be listed as a consensus first-teamer...but that list uses a pretty loose definition. (Essentially deeming you consensus if you were first team on two of the four major teams.)

I found the Wiki below, which seems to indicate that they called someone "consensus" if they were first-team on a "majority" (!) of the four major polls. According to the lists, Chones was a first teamer on two of four (AP and UPI), but not listed at all on the NABC or USBWA. I am guessing the latter two deemed him 'ineligible' for leaving early, because he clearly would have been first-team if they hadn't. But technically, he wasn't consensus by the more commonly accepted term requiring first-team status on all four.

Pretty sure "consensus" is majority, as you note. Howard is a Unanimous First Team All-American because he appeared on all four of the recognized lists.

This.  No more needs to be said.  Congratulations Markus!
