I went with Koby, but Theo's 34 minutes and 2 personal fouls were outstanding.  Haarms scored 14, but it was a quiet 14.

Completely agree on Theo. Played great on Haarms and guarded without jumping or swatting too much.

Markus- last year this is a game where Markus would go 8 for 22 instead of 6 for 12. Impressive that he let the game come to him. Painter said something along the lines that he wanted to keep markus at under 1 point per shot.

Koby was outstanding as well. If they both are on, it may be the best starting backcourt in the nation.

Totally agree with this, and it's why I named Markus a close runner-up. He played a smart, effective, team-oriented game.

Nobody is perfect. He forced a couple of shots in the first half, drove wildly in the lane for a turnover, turned it over against the press, and took an ill-advised shot down the stretch when we should have been milking the clock, but given the number of minutes he plays and his responsibilities with this team, those are pretty small nits. Oh, and he made that ill-advised shot down the stretch, too!

Good to see Koby play well but Markus is the straw that stirs the drink and a lot of what's available to others is partially due to the attention that he gets. Also,  I think his defense is better and has improved every year. He's adjusting his game to the team, and he sets a great example by his effort level. It's a cliche but when your best player is the guy who makes the hardest cuts and fights through screens it has an effect on your whole team. In all it's just an absolute pleasure to watch him and I'm excited to see where he takes the team this year. By that logic I will probably vote him SOTG for every win, que sera sera.

There was a play last night where Markus was all over a guy at the top of the key, they passed to a guy on the wing that was open and Markus fought through a screen and came out of nowhere to challenge the shot. I'll have to rewatch to see when it was, but his defensive effort was excellent.

This sums up my thoughts pretty well. Koby was great (after the first 10-15 minutes), but it's likely much tougher if he doesn't have a defense worried about Markus turning any sliver of daylight into points.

Thats why good teams have balance.

I should probably add credits to the pics I find. This one from Jordan Johnson.  Here's where I got it...
