I do know, Newsie is right on you knowing ball.

Interesting if true.    Bradley and Reggie Jackson are the probable starters in the Piston backcourt.   There is an opportunity to provide depth.

Hope that Dwight can make the team. It would be great for both Dwight and MU.

It's a two-way contract.  He can only be on the Pistons for up to 45 days.

BTW, we were wrong about Vander's eligibility for a two-way deal.  He could have signed a two year deal, but I think the deal he signed was better.

Two former Warriors on one team! I hope they can carve out some playing time.

Who is the other?
Retire Terry Rand's jersey!

Could be quite likely, though it might be in Grand Rapids rather than Detroit.   :-\

The two way deal is a good thing for Dwight. It means he made the team as one of the 16th and 17th players on the roster. It is better than the training camp deal that Vander got because the Pistons have something invested in Dwight success for a full year.

Granted there are some limitations of how much he will be able to play in the NBA versus G League. However, there are provisions that if they like him after he exhausted the maximum days they upgrade it to a full NBA contract.

Dwight is likely to have some very good games where he scores in flurries and makes some nice steals. I believe he will make the most of this opportunity.

Vander got a $50,000 bonus, which means that if he spends zero time in the NBA this seasons and goes back to the G-League, he will earn the same as a two-way player who spends his entire season in the G-League.  And he also doesn't have a cap on the number of days he can be on an NBA roster.

And Vander retains the flexibility to be signed off a G-League roster by another NBA team.

Here is an article explaining why the two-way deal isn't necessarily a good one.

The only thing Vander is risking are the days that he *could* be on an NBA roster.  Yes, and that could be as much as about $140k, but it also could be $0.

In theory you are correct the economics of the  two way deal are roughly the same and the logistics are in the favor of the team .  So by not taking the two way, In fact Vander could actually make the 15th spot on the roster.

However,  My concern for  Vander is if the Lakers go another way in training camp, pick someone else for the 15th spot and give their remaining two way to another player, and then Vander goes another whole year without getting called up. So it may be in Vanders interest to secure a  two way deal; with the knowledge he will likely get some games in with the parent team. The Lakers are going to pick their second two way deal as training camp progresses.

The other notable thing about the current situation is that the Lakers are looking to offload some contract dollars to free up space for free agents next year. One name that has been bandied about is Jordan Clarkson. Clarkson has a big dollar contrast, he is the same age as Vander and is not materially different as a player. If Vander can get some decent time with the parent club , and demonstrate he is indeed a Clarkson equivalent, the Lakers may be inclined to move Clarkson and his $11 million a year contract to replace with Vander at 1 million and now that gives them more funds to throw at the Big money guys next summer.
