Know your enemy. South Carolina

I have 0 insight other than kenpom has them as third best defense, and us as 7th ranked offense.  And Frank Martin is insane.

Just wanted to open a thread for discussion on matchups.

Just on paper, seems to me like a Seton Hall type team (win ugly physical games), not an ideal matchup for MU

But we beat the Hall once and should have beat them the first time at their place, so I give us a 40% chance if our threes are dropping and we're getting to the line (they look foul prone). But their 3p% defense is #5 in the nation (not good!), and they turn people over at an insane rate, which gives me a queasy @St. John's feeling.  There's a fairly good chance we could get blown out if they're allowed to play physical.

Bottom line is, we're back in the dance, I'd take any matchup at this point!

I think we have to feed the post. Silva and Kotsar foul a TON. 33 times between them with 4+ fouls, 12 foul outs (Silva fouled out 9 times). Use Luke to open up the outside game.

Well we are 2-0 against the SEC. Let's make it 3-0. We have 3 guys that can shoot the 3 and if JJJ finds his stroke we have 5. I like our chances.

Key is just to move the ball and make the right pass.  We shoot well enough where we just have to find the open guys.  Don't get nervous and let the gameplan switch.  We have to win using our strengths.  I'm fine getting Luke his touches but let's make sure he gets some easy buckets before he starts doing his back down to fall away hook shoot too early.

Wait ... so if JJJ is hitting his shots, he counts as much as two guys that can shoot the 3?

I think that would be a mistake. The offense is best when we are forcing action out on the perimeter with screen and roll and/or dribble hand-offs. Spread the floor. Make the defense choose whether to switch or help.

Plus, Luke really doesn't draw fouls on the post-up. He mostly gets to the line from passes off dribble penetration or offensive boards. He doesn't have that Davante Gardner post-game that is going to cause fouls.

Finally, featuring the post is going to slow the game down. We need to push the pace to win. I think pace will be key. If it turns into a slugfest, South Carolina is going to win.
