I would argue that this is the second time this year that MU's defensive rebounding at crunch time was a contributing factor to the loss.   Pitt was the first.     And I predicted 4, so two to go.

Rebounding was only one facet of meltdown.

Missed dunk and layup in last minute plus 2 turnovers at end were just as lethal.

It will be the difference between dancing and not.

Damn this game would have made the road to the tourney much easier.

And it will continue throughout the season. MU has not had a bruiser type in some time and in BE play it is required.  Look at Delgado, he is what 6ft 6, but built like a truck and abused MU.

Next year will be worse without Fischer, leaving Heldt at center and he won't last a half without fouls.

Recruits John and Eke better get to Burger King every day because next year will be worse, and that's a shame because they have a nucleus with Cheatham, Howard, Hauser, etc.

Delgado is listed at 6'10.

I don't want our recruits eating Burger King.

You can blame Sam for giving up the offensive rebound on the first one--he boxed out but then failed to chase it down when it went off to the side--but the second one isn't on our 4, it was completely on our 3.  Inexplicably*, JJJ shoved the guy Sam was boxing out into Sam and completely took him out of position.  Then, JJJ failed to secure the rebound not once, but twice.

*I say inexplicably, but we've all see JJJ do really, really dumb things too many times to count.
If you think for one second that I am comparing the USA to China you have bumped your hard.

I feel the same. We went from a 10 seed to a 1 NIT seed in that game.

This is a good game. They will hopefully learn from this.

They were down 10 (I think?) at one point and I remember saying "GAME OVER..." and honestly, in the past two years, it would have been game over. They showed heart and fought back.

Yeah, really with ANY other ending (say eh hit a bunch of ridiculous circus 3s) I would have been very happy. The real test of the pudding will be how we come out of this - if we are respectable @nova and then take SH at home I'll feel like we're really moving in the right direction .

The pessimist in me, however, is concerned that "that game we almost won at SH" becomes the high point of the season. After 3 years of this I'm sick of moral victories. I want some victory victories!

I'm not confident of many things...but I am that Theo John doesn't need to eat Burger King before next season.

Size and strength won't be a problem for him.

I don't think any of our recruits need to eat at Burger King. My guess is most Scoopers probably shouldn't be eating at Burger King either (myself included) ;D

That new Burger King at Wells and 14th must have Residence Life tripling their toilet paper orders.

I'm skeptical of the question raised by the original post.

True, we don't have a dominant defensive rebounder on this team. But even if we could bring in someone else, it would likely mean a reduction in playing time for Sam — someone with an effective field goal percentage of 69%, who's shooting 46% from 3 and has an OTrg of 131.5.

Is an additional rebound or two worth having Sam on the bench?

Granted, it might be ideal to have both — giving Wojo the option to make a defensive substitution when needed. Even so, I believe Sam has the highest DR% on the team.

I don't remember us being down 10, but I was pretty buzzed.

I had that same "game over" feeling and was thrilled we came back. Sucks to lose but was nice to see the comeback especially since the refs were letting a lot go. Treated both teams the same from what I could tell but that type of reffing is not to our advantage.

Not sure if it ever got to 10 but it was at least 8 at one point
