Yes but from my understanding he cannot travel on MU's dime.

Yes he can.  He isn't a transfer like Rowsey was last year.  He is a member of the team in every manner, but actually doesn't officially redshirt until the season is over and he has played no minutes.

Now MU and Wojo may decide that he shouldn't travel, but that's another issue all together.

That's what I thought, but then Velazquez reported (I think more than once?) that he couldn't.  And he was also in a suit last night as opposed to dressed with the rest of the team like I thought most red shirts were.

I think those are Marquette choices versus official NCAA rules.

I guess you did not like watching Al's teams, they barely played 7 much less 8.  Time-outs every 4 minutes now, add the team time-outs at there run is very
short.  Use the time-outs to rest them, 30 to 40 seconds before the TV time out, gives them 4 to5 minutes to rest.  I never wanted to come out of a game and
we played 32 minutes.  At that age, who does?  Why did Cohen and Traci leave, they want to play.
think the triangle and two was there when needed to keep them out of foul trouble though :-)

Were there any reports of him graduating on time? I wonder if he's a prime candidate to be a grad transfer?

Pulled groin.  Tough injury cause it can take awhile to recover from.
Got a special boot for that, Doc?

I heard that he is planning to graduate in 2017, but isn't planning to transfer.  He's primed for big playing time as a senior next year, especially with the Carter transfer.

This leg injury has been bothering/nagging for a while.

MUBigDance

Just getting to this thread...didn't realize it could be a longer term injury.

Having 8 or 7 or 6 is not just about getting winded...its the fouls...we almost had our two point guards gone with 3min left. Not to mention Fischer having an unusually free game.

After that 5th foul on Rowsey I felt the walls closing in a bit.

If Wilson out for SH, ugh.

With Reinhardt and Johnson graduating and Carter leaving, have to figure Duane will be a strong contender for a starting job as a senior and will be able to contribute minutes at the 1, 2, and 3.

Have we confirmed this? Sacar was at New York for sure and I thought he was at Georgia too. I tried to find a rule about redshirt travel and came up empty.

I do know, Newsie is right on you knowing ball.

MuMark

I think he can travel just like any other player. They announce the redshirt so they don't have to answer questions about why a guy isn't playing but the reality is he could suit up and sit on the bench every game and if he was needed they could put him in the game.

Now they won't do that but he is eligible to play at anytime.

I think the guys that have to pay their own way are transfer red shirts like Rowsey last season.

At what point do you take off Sacars redshirt?

Never. Half way through a "rebuild" year. Don't waste a year of eligibility for 10 minutes a game.

Redshirts are a full member of a team. They only actually redshirt at the end of a year when they officially have played zero minutes.

This is what I always thought but I know Velazquez said otherwise in his article about Sacar. I think it was an honest mistake but no one has been able to give me a definitive ruling.

I'm pretty sure Velazquez initially misreported that Sacar could not travel, but corrected the mistake in his next article. He is able to travel with the team, I believe.

The most reliable way to summon him is to reference someone's shooting ability using raw FG%.

It is a conundrum.  It would be best for Scar to sit the rest of the year.  If Duane is out for any length of time, it is better to dress 9 than 8 in the Big East.  Too much physicality, too many fouls.

Al retired 40 years ago.  The game has changed.

Yep, no shot clock for one thing.

The best indicator of a player's shooting ability (and especially team shooting ability) isn't raw FG% but rather free throw percentage. Nothing more important than the reliability of hitting a standing set shot.  ;D
