Just robbed the US Bank branch in AMU while indicating he possessed a weapon and was then arrested just a few minutes later by MUPD in the Walgreen's. No injuries so I feel it's okay to make snide comments.

Got held up when I was working at a pharmacy in high school.  He made the presence of a weapon well known.  People are idiots.

The Marquette campus has the highest number of police officers per square mile in the the entire state.  You would have to be a complete idiot to commit a crime there.

Let's not even get into the fact that he tried to escape by running towards Marquette's police station.
Have some patience, FFS.

From what I have heard that might have been the correct escape strategy...

Can you explain what you mean?

Or are you just making a bad joke based on a 30-year-old sterotype?

If you want to see a real crime, you should see what they're serving students in the cafeterias.

See...it's not hard.  Jokes about security/police and cafeteria food are timeless and work on any campus in America.

From the walls of the McCormick 8th Floor shltters:

"Flush twice- it's a long way to the cafeteria"

"S.A.G.A.: Soviet Attempt to Gas America"

"How do they keep the flies out of the cafeteria? They let the flies taste the food"

"Marquette is a religious school - that's why we pray before, during, and after dinner"

So, is it correct to say "good thing MU has a real police force as opposed to unarmed public safety officers?"

As you may or may not know, back in the 90's Public Safety became armed.  Just last year following changes in state law they were upgraded to a full police force with full enforcement and arrest powers and renamed MUPD.  I'm not going to dig for the statistics but crime on and around campus is down very significantly since that upgrade.  It's been quite remarkable actually.

Of course the goal is for the 'bad guys' to hear this and simply stay away because they're going to get caught, literally in the act.  It's happened several times.  Just last fall an assault was aborted when MUPD showed up as the victim was shouting, gave chase, and dropped the dude to the pavement on Wisconsin Ave.  Cuffs, jail, goodbye.

Once in awhile it you fellas ought to follow Marquette news other than basketball, especially if you want to offer opinions on those matters.  All it takes is for you to open up that Marquette Magazine they send you occasionally:

And, whether he was armed or not, by representing that he was, he probably just opened himself up to an "armed" robbery. He's gonna have 3 hot and a cot for a while.

Do we need to request a "no joke" board from the Mods for certain topics.

You seemed a mite sensitive here. No clue why 8-)

I know this and participated (with you) in other threads about the MUPD.  In those threads some were against the idea of MUPD, believing that public safety was fine.  That was the basis for my comment.

Sorry; I misread your comment.  I thought you were asking if MU had real police officers now and not just unarmed security guards.

The 'no joke' page is one of the secret boards.

The problem is all my movie references are like 30+ year old.  I quote stuff like Caddyshack regularly.
