Early thoughts on today's Apple annoucements?

Haven't had a chance to see much detail but was curious what the Scoop community thought about the revealed updated/changed/new products.

It's an S release. Incremental changes but will still sell in the 10's of millions. Shame about the 16GB base model. Have to watch the new apple tv reveal sounds more exciting.

Waiting for my Amazon releases.  Stocked out of the Fire TV and at least one tablet model so release should be any time now.  Rumors of 4K FTV, a $50 tablet on low end and beast 10 inch on high end.

I really enjoy my fire tv and am a big fan of their services but I am not a huge fan of their tablet offerings. I think I just don't like the design of fire os. My xbox one is my go to device for media streaming however since it has cloud based streaming, gaming and a blue ray all in one machine.

If you have a good amount of Amazon cloud material (including Prime music / video), the functionality of quickly toggling content on/off the device for traveling is nice.  Not much else going for them.  They've tried this "Amazon Underground" free app store, which is mostly a gimmick of free versions of paid apps that are also available on Play or iTunes.

New Nexus device is coming from Google later this month, so will wait to see the specs on that before upgrading.  As for Amazon, if you are Prime member, you can now download most of their Prime Video library for offline viewing.    http://www.fool.com/investing/general/2015/09/08/amazon-prime-just-gained-an-advantage-over-netflix.aspx

I'm satisfied with my Galaxy phone so not going the apple route there (though I have an iPhone 5 for work)

I'm mostly intrigued by the iPad Pro.  My wife is clamoring for a Mac to replace her admittedly ancient Dell laptop, but I really don't want to fork over $1600 for a Mac Pro that she won't use 10% of the capabilities on and she will expect me to be tech support on even though I haven't used a Mac since the Oregon Trail days of the early 90s.  I think I can convince her to go with a iPad Pro+external hard drive+plus keyboard accessory, save a couple of sheckles and not have to deal with a Mac.

Crash, I've heard positive things on the WIN phones, but why should I change?  I get the sync capability with my Dell laptop but theres not a lot of stuff that I need to take from my personal laptop to my phone.  I could definitely see that in a work environment, but since we've barely progressed to Windows 7 and are anchored to Apple phones and security hasn't been this tight since the Cold War days of SAC at my company to allow BYOD activity, I doubt I'd get to leverage the capability.

You can get a solidly equipped macbook pro for 1300 after taxes.  I don't think the Pro+accessories is going to save you all that much

I've used the surface, it is great.  I use a 2 in 1 from Dell that I really like with Windows 10 as well.  However the wife character is interested an all-in move to the Apple ecosystem.

I'd buy her a Surface Pro 3 and tell her do you want a toy or a productivity machine?

Win phone is great as a connected productivity platform and will be getting better in the next 6 months. We use Surface Pro 3, Hubs, and Win Phones on Azure and it is remarkable.

If your wife is a recreational user who needs a large app menu then win phone might not be her choice. If it is the latter I would get her the Galaxy as it is an exceptional device.

As for boxes the Surface Pro 3 is phenomenal. Again, she might not need that much capability and you'll waste about a $1000 worth of productivity performance. Having said which, there are some remarkable technologies coming out of both Seattle and San Jose in the near term that will revolutionize how people connect for a range of situations so getting her on a high speed box now might be good planning.

Underwhelmed by Apple of late, and I say that as a shareholder and user.  Feels like their innovation has stalled and they are duplicating now.  I don't call the watch much of an innovation, and the TV nonsense that they've talked about for 6 straight years and yet to do a damn thing worth note in the space has become laughable.

I'd like to see them kick it up a notch.  That being said, I just got a Galaxy phone for work while still having iPhone 6 for personal. I absolutely hate this Galaxy.  Maybe it will grow on me, but I want to throw it in a lake if California had any during the drought.

omgosh, the stock price is over $100, Mr. Money! You shouldn't have let Scoopers know this!!!!

My initial reaction is... "OK, so no significant changes that I care about" on the 6s. That's unfortunate.

I passed on the 6 -- was concerned about the size.. but now I think I'm comfortable with it. Still rolling with a 5s. I will probably go to the 6s... even though it doesn't do much for me.
Thanks for ruining summer, Canada.

You might like the 6s better since the vibration mode is more forceful than the 5s', hey?

I already did in my list of stocks bought long ago.  I just wish I could buy stocks the "RIGHT WAY".

I hate Samsung's android skin. Much prefer htc. The m9 is nice.

Amazon announcement was today.  Very underwhelming.  The new Fire TV has 4K and the Alexa voice assistant from the Echo.  Specs aren't any better otherwise, and the USB can't be used for storage anymore (has to be SD).  The voice remote Stick and controller Fire TV bundles are poor deals.

The cheap piece of plastic to stream their stuff positioning of the tablets is disappointing.  The new tablets are grossly underpowered.  I was hoping to replace my Fire tablet that is several years old, yet the processor, resolution, and storage are better than these.  Though I suppose buying the "six pack" of $50 tablets is nice if you want one in every room, including next to the can.

Most people don't realize, but I think Amazon has had one profitable quarter in the last 70 or something crazy like that.

+1

Have had the m7 for over 2 years and still get's the job done (even though I use a Nova launcher on it), the HTC interface is pretty nice.  Still waiting on the new Nexus devices, and if they are underwhelming might spring for the G4, as it has a removable battery, microSD and can be had for about $450 off contract.

Most people realize some of the things you thing and say - especially when it comes to stocks - are crazy.

The company reported net income in their most recent quarter ended 6/30/15... must you go back 70 quarters to find another profitable quarter? Let's see.. Q1.. small loss... OK, there's one. 69 to go... OK, let's see.. Q4 of 2014... ooopsy, net income again!

OK, so it's not one in the last 70 or something crazy like that.. it's actually 1 in the last 2.

*FULL-YEAR* 2013 = Net income

Time to update your knowledge of Amazon, guy.

Thanks for ruining summer, Canada.
