Zagoria confirms that Bailey will take his Mormon mission before going to college, so he isn't a Coffey backup plan.

Bailey down to 5. MU made the cut. Will make fall decision and then go on 2 year mission.

I have a really good feeling about this kid. I think he ends up in Blue and Gold. My gut tells me the biggest competition is hometown Utah. It sounds like he has a good relationship with San Diego State, but what are the chances that 70 year old Steve Fisher will still be coaching when Bailey graduates in 2022? What are the chances he's still coaching when arrives in 2018?

I do know, Newsie is right on you knowing ball.

I think it all comes down to how close to home he wants to be.  Hope it works out.

a lot can happen in two years to change his decision.  Will all that bicycle riding changes his muscle definition for the worse?

With the two year mission, this guy is going to 21 before he even wears a college uni.

I would take the Rick SLU program right now.

Are a lot of the BYU and Utah and Utah State players like that?

Yes. There are a lot of Mormon kids from the Puget Sound area who play ball but go on missions. My son had several teammates who signed to play college ball and I recall some of them still in college after he was graduated because of their mission hiatus.

What is interesting is that a lot of older Mormons are now doing missions as well. Whereas the initial missions are largely for men the LDS Church is now sending couples off to spread the word.

It's their form of service, which isn't a bad thing, but the missionaries are given "soul" targets as if they are salesmen which I find somewhat cynical.

I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure Jabari Parker almost went on a Mormon Mission until he realized how much money he would be giving up.

Parker believes that he is getting out the word of the Church by playing.  Less than 40% of Mormons go on missions.

We had those kids knock on our door while living overseas. What always got me was when you tell them you are C of E or RC they always came back with, "that's nice, but..."

Missionaries are given a sales quota and they have contests for various target demographics. I always found odd attaching empiricism to something that is faith-based.

Interesting article from the NYT on Mormon women and their increasing role in missions:
