"It will be a lot of fun:" Henry Ellenson anxious to play basketball with his brother at MU next season

MILWAUKEE (WITI) — Henry Ellenson is one of the state's best high school basketball players. Next season, he brings his talent to Marquette University — but his senior season didn't exactly end the way he wanted it to.

Going into his senior season of high school, 6'10" Rice Lake forward Henry Ellenson had a big decision to make. He had three powerhouse Division I basketball programs recruiting him — Kentucky, Michigan State and Marquette.

Ellenson's older brother Wally already suits up for the Golden Eagles, so it wasn't much of a surprise when the younger Ellenson committed to Steve Wojciechowski and MU.

"It will be a lot of fun playing with my brother. It's something I got to do obviously at Rice Lake for a year and I had a great time with it so I'm real excited to play with him again. It will be a lot of fun," Ellenson said.

Ellenson had a lot of fun during his senior season. He was named co-Mr. Basketball and he took his Warriors to the state championship game this past March. Unfortunately for him, he broke his hand in the semifinal game and watched from the bench as his team took the silver ball.

Ellenson was also one of three Wisconsin players named to the McDonald's All-American team. Since his hand is healing, he had to watch that from the bench as well.

"It's a bummer for sure missing all those games. It was tough on me, but I just really have to be patient with it and I cant force anything so it was tough, but it is what it is and it happened for a reason," Ellenson said.

Could that reason be so that he's rested and ready to go for Marquette's season?

"I think I can bring a lot to the table. I think we have a good core group of guys," Ellenson said.

A group of guys who will likely center around big men Luke Fischer and Henry Ellenson. The team lacked a lot of size this past season, but they didn't lack heart.

"There were some games this year, like five games I remember where there was either to or they lost by one or two so I think we have a great core group. I think I can help them push it over the table to be on the winning side of things next year," Ellenson said.

Winning is something Ellenson understands. He's a gym rat, he works hard and he has big goals.

"I'm hoping to bring Marquette next year to the NCAA Tournament and making a run. I want to get to a Final Four. I want to win a national championship right away. I know that's a lot on the table but it's something I want to do so I'm going to work hard this summer," Ellenson said.

While mentally, Ellenson is anxious to get started, physically, his hand still needs some time to heal.

"Right now, it's just resting. I can't be moving around. I have to let the bones set and, you know, I just have to be patient with it," Ellenson said.

Patience will be the key for both Ellenson and Marquette fans.

Not that it matters, but I cannot help but thinking that Ellenson would of been the sole WI player of the year, if Stone had announced earlier he was going to MD.

I love this attitude!
