Would you want Marquette to play in the CBI Tournament?

Yes
No

brewcity77

Moot point now. On the plus side, the next time we see Marquette should be the debut of Henry Ellenson and the 2015 class!

4everwarriors

Why waste the money. Teams pay to play in this "tournament."

Nah.  If we had 11 players and plenty of younglings who needed more time I think I'd lean to it.

Can I just say I love the fact that we don't hear a lot about Scholl. A pleasant change from his predecessor. I don't even know where Scholl's kids go to college.

Agree.  It was oft said here that the preferred AD is one who doesn't need to stand out and seek attention.  When we've had Scholl sightings he's been at the games, and using the time to network with boosters with dollars, recruits, and the conference commissioner.

Spotcheck Billy

are CBI games even televised/streamed?

rocky_warrior

Even before I read Scholl's feedback...I said no.

To try to win, Wojo would be playing the seniors...not just the young guys to "get them more time" as many here hope.  Also, that time would largely be wasted because the young guys have to get used to playing with a whole new set of guys next year.  Not to mention possible injury for a meaningless tournament.

So...no, no, and no.

Thanks Seniors!  Looking forward to watching again next Oct.

The real question: If MU was ever invited, accepted, played in, and WON the CBI, would and/or should Marquette hang a banner...?

Bill Scholl apparently told Velasquez that its not going to happen.  "Not the right fit."
I find this disappointing. Any tournament experience is good.

Wojo and staff can go 100% on recruiting until March 31. Clear path.  So no

bamamarquettefan

as the last school to turn down an NCAA bid, I believe we should turn down the NCAA once again if they put us in the wrong region, and accept and win the CBI!
The www.valueaddsports.com analysis of basketball, football and baseball players are intended to neither be too hot or too cold - hundreds immerse themselves in studies of stats not of interest to broader fan bases (too hot), while others still insist on pure observation (too cold).

HutchwasClutch

No they shouldn't turn it down if offered.  Always keep playing.

And the notion there's even a small chance they'll get offered as teams with losing records have previously is a sad commentary on our everyone gets a trophy society that some want to live.  Strong conference RPI or not, they're not worthy of any postseason play this year, and it's an injustice to other teams left out if they would get invited (which they won't).

Well, VCU beat st Louis for the title in 2010 and then went final four the next year. The year after Pitt was a 3-seed and lost in the NCAA by fouling butler 80 feet from the basket they went CBI and hung the banner. Then Oregon won it in 2012, went onto a good not run in 2013 and then a good NCAA run last year - so I wouldn't look down on the CBI. Probably just about every team that does go would be favored against us at kenpom. If it's not a good fit I understand, but there are still a lot of good teams left after the NCAA and not pick theirs.
