How did the All-star game rate versus previous years?  How did it rate versus a regular NBA game telecast?

GGGG

The All-Star game was up 12% from the year before, which was also on TNT.

I guess I don't understand why it was so "great" that SNL was watched more than the AS game though.

The predominately white guys beat the predominately black guys - cause for celebration for some, I guess.

Because NBA players are all prima donnas who rarely try, travel on every play, have too many tattoos and won't stay off Chico's damn lawn.

Country needs a little humor over an exhibition game that the players don't want to play and is a mockery of the game.  IMO.

I watched the All Star game last night....the one that featured the comedic all-stars on SNL.  A lot of fun, glad it whooped the NBA All-Star game.

Man to you, even mindless entertainment is part of some larger cultural conflict.

Anyhow, given that ASG numbers were actually up 12 percent, seems pretty unlikely that viewers were choosing SNL over the game, or vice versa. Seems like the hoops fans still watched the hoops and SNL took viewers away from "The Simpsons" and "CSI: Waukesha" or whatever procedural CBS was airing at the time.

WellsstreetWanderer

Watched an SNL replay from 1975 yesterday where Paul Simon beat Connie Hawkins one on one.  It was hilarious and more realistic than the All-Star game

All star weekend seems fun, it's just that the game itself was practically unwatchable.

It almost always is.  NFL, NBA, NHL all-star games are unwatchable.  I've been to them all....I just give the tickets away now.  They are brutal.  Players don't want to be there, coaches don't, etc.

MLB still has some semblance, but even that one is so diminished from what it once was.

Do you bash the Harlem Globetrotters too?  Sorry if some people enjoy watching superstars who will never play with each other toss alley-oops from half court.  Or seeing a magician like Steph Curry try dribble moves that even he isn't audacious enough to try in a normal game.  The NBA All-Star game just seems like cannon fodder for the anti-NBA set, the same who complained about the Slam Dunk competition even though a relatively unknown 19 year old took people's breath away.  Sorry that it didn't have enough lock down defense and hard picks set, players should much rather risk injury for the sake of basketball purists.

Nobody cares about the Pro Bowl cause its an afterthought, the NBA All Star weekend is designed for entertainment and they did a great job of it this year.

Especially after the tie in Milwaukee some years ago.

I enjoyed SNL last night. For the most part, I thought they did a good job cramming 40 years into 3.5 hours.

Rolling Stone (barf) recently ranked all of the cast members. The list, similar to Rolling Stone's other works, is thrown together with out much explanation or sense.

I always thought the NBA missed out on adding events. I don't watch the all-star game, but I watched the dunk contest. I'd also love to watch a 2v2 or 3v3 half court, play to 11 (1s and 2s) tournament. Either pick your own teammates, or each NBA team sends a representative team.

Thought SNL and the NBA All-Star Game were one and the same. Didn't watch either. Don't give no chit.

I like the NBA, but don't enjoy/watch the All-Star game.  I understand why the game is the way it is, and understand that it holds entertainment value for many, just not for me.  Tough for me to be interested in a game where the participants don't particularly care who wins.  A big part of the reason spectacular plays are spectacular is because the other team is trying to stop them.

So the only All-Star game worth watching (to me) is MLB, because that's the only one where the participants in the game are going all-out to win and, other than constant subbing to get everyone in, the game is the same game.  Pitchers are going all out to get the hitters out, the hitters are trying to get hits, the defense is trying full-bore to make plays, etc.
