My requests for the new arena:

1)Stage lighting, similar to Barclays, MSG and Staples
2)Closed drapes to concessions during play, morons shouldn't be able to walk around like it's a rummage sale
(Kohl Center does a good job with this)
3)Beer Vendors, why should I have to get up to give you $8 for a beer?
4)Basketball only or at least basketball 1st, wow does the BC suck for hoops

Ushers should prevent fans from entering willy-nilly. If you aren't in your seat when action is going on, you wait until the next TV timeout. Nothing worse than people constantly entering and exiting a row all game long instead of actually watching the game.

Been wanting that projector system for a while. There are some really great examples of how it can be used out there.

This sounds like a request from a hockey fan! I can't agree more. And then when they are standing in front of you while play is going on, you can yell "wait for the whistle"...

I remember an overtime game last year, I think it was 'Nova, most fans gave up and left, then when we tied it and went to overtime, a ton streamed back in and stood at the glass in my section. Well, that's about 10 feet in front of where my seats were. It was maddening. I asked a bunch to move, some listened, but more kept coming in and standing there. Finally ushers moved them, but they really shouldn't let anyone to enter or exit when the game is going on.

Stage lighting is where the court is illuminated but the seats are darkened, correct? I've always wondered why more places don't do that. It looks cool and can hide empty seats (not that Marquette would ever have any).

Providence changed around their lights last season to have more of that stage lighting. Looks awesome on TV.

Mark me down for not allowing people to entering the seating area when the ball's in play. If not near your seat when the segment starts, must wait until the next TV time out to go to your seat. Ohio St had that at their arena this year. Excellent idea.

They always do this at the Professional Tennis Tournament by my home and I noticed they do this at Yankee games now also but for field level seats only.

I've heard others say that this is cool, too.  Maybe I'm alone on this, but I actually don't like the way this looks.

Should we close the bathrooms too.  If you close concessions you have to do away with the 2 beer rule

Showing my age here (again), but I'm pretty sure they had curtains and limited access during play in the old days at MECCA.

I think so too but you could buy beer to the end of the game and it was $3 for a 32 oz

http://www.wired.com/2014/12/epic-fullcourt-optical-illusions/

http://deadspin.com/the-nbas-3d-court-projection-systems-are-awesome-1651905714

The Wired article says the real challenge is incorporating darkened areas of the court (logos, graphics, etc.)... obviously not as much of a problem for ice as a basketball court, but as you can see in Pakuni's post, the lane areas and center court logo appear to stay on the same plane during the 3D animation.

Consider MU's home court:

What intrigues me is that because the MU logo at center court (and to a lesser extent the MARQUETTE text below the baselines) has a contrasting interior color with a good amount of floor space that is completely "usable" by the projector, the animation team could do some pretty cool things with our home court.

And if that's not enough,

Quote
“The media server is really the heart of this,” says Williams. “We can bring in a camera system, and we can follow [players] discretely. There can be more than one—up to 34. We’ll know who each one of them is, you can visualize them here, and the media server can apply a graphic specific to that individual.” They haven’t done that yet for Devils games, but the result would look like a live-action NHL ’94 video game.

Having grown up stuffing quarters into NBA Jam, I'm already having visions about how to incorporate a "He's on Fire" graphic and some sort of burning net illusion when the ball goes through the rim.  But alas, there's no way the NCAA is going to allow court animation while the ball's in play.
Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

Agreed with those commenting on the people wanting to go to concessions/to the bathroom.  Ushers should prevent them from entering back in during play in all sports that are continuous play (soccer aside as there are not breaks in the halves).

The only sports this should be allowed in are football and baseball as the play isn't completely continuous.

Close, but what the new arena really needs:

If they can do 3D Court Effects, and holograms of Tupac and Michael Jackson, I want to see Hologram Al pumping up the crowd before our starting lineup is introduced.
