Who's Your State's Favorite Band
« on: November 03, 2014, 09:51:33 AM »
I'm not up on the popular artists today, so a lot of this is meaningless to me; although, I've been told a lot about New Hampshire and Vermont, and this map certainly corroborates those stories.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

More evidence that West Virginia is two decades behind the rest of the nation.

No surprise here; Vermont is the birthplace of Cherry Garcia ice cream.
Have some patience, FFS.

Interesting to see bro-country artists popular in the upper midwest.

Can't say I'm surprised.

Young Jeezy is not the favorite band of Michigan. If you wanted to stick with a rapper then it would clearly be Eminem.

I would say the favorite of the state is Bob Seger and Kid Rock for the down river Detroit folk.
Bring back FFP!!!

If everyone was honest, every state would be Taylor Swift.

Who the hell is Sufjan Stevens?

A guy whose song, "Chicago" was included on his album titled "Illinois."

It might have seemed like a decent selection had Alabama, Ohio or California picked Lynyrd Skynyrd, Crosby Stills & Nash or Red Hot Chili Peppers, respectively.  Then again, Jersey did pick Springsteen.  So at least Illinois isn't the only state suffering from narcissism.

If you have seen the movie "Little Miss Sunshine", you have heard his music.

Surprised you haven't heard of him, Chitown.  He is very popular with the youngsters.
Have some patience, FFS.

In case people missed it, this isn't states' favorite musicians. It's the musician that is more popular in one state relative to other states. So Jack Johnson listed for Wisconsin doesn't mean he's #1, it means he might be #50 in Wisconsin and #100 everywhere else.

Can't we just get it over with and move Indiana down somewhere between Alabama and Mississippi?

Agreed that it is a map about who's "disproportionately popular," but that eliminates the bias of who's popular everywhere in the nation to see who is most popular only in that state.

In other words, it shows who each state's uniquely favorite band is.

What the hell happened to Sam McCue and the Legends? Or Little Artie and the Pharohs? How can we not recognize Say Mama by the Legends?
I thought you were dead. Willie lives rent free in Reekers mind.

Im much more of a hip-hop/Rap and Motown fan. To go along with a few sprinkles of 90s alternative.
