You're looking too closely, CT. It's the same as 'when the Germans bombed Pearl harbor...'

Yeah, I know.  I was bored during a conference call, hopped on to MUScoop, read the thread and decided to start typing while semi-paying attention and that pile of nonsense spewed forth.
Calvin:  I'm a genius.  But I'm a misunderstood genius.
Hobbes:  What's misunderstood about you?
Calvin:  Nobody thinks I'm a genius.

Notre Dame doesn't even see Marquette as a rival lol

I have a cousin who graduated from ND in 2010, and was surprised to learn they viewed Marquette as their chief basketball rival. That will change with them moving to the ACC, but you don't exactly have to go back to Al vs. Digger to find evidence of actual rivalry. Besides, ND is one those schools hated by pretty much everyone who isn't ND. Kinda like how most non-Dukies hate Duke.

Separately, Digger sang the 7th inning stretch during Saturday's Cubs game. Wasn't happy to see him, but I forgot Jamie Moyer is his son-in-law.

Never even applied to ND because I knew I would never accept. Hated them since I have been paying attention to sports

1.) "Notre Dame Saturday" on NBC. It's not just Saturday, you see, it's "Notre Dame Saturday." Not to be confused with "Fish Friday,"
Takeout Tuesday" nor "Prince Spaghetti Wednesday." It seems NBC went out of its way to annoy.

2.) As a Chicago resident, the Chicago media cover Notre Dame way more than Marquette, even though Marquette has more fans in the area (I've done the research) and almost always has a better team. This annoys me down to my bones. I remember about seven years ago when Marquette made the NCAA tourney and ND got into the NIT. The Chicago Tribune had a preview story on ND and NOTHING on Marquette. About two years ago, when ND actually made the tourney and played at the United Center, the Sun-Times completely ignored a preview for Marquette's tourney game (not one word) yet devoted nearly two pages previewing Notre Dame.

3.) People who root for Notre Dame yet who never went there. Rooting for Notre Dame is like rooting for McDonald's — it's the default, the no-brainer. I have a good friend who falls into this category. Really going out on a limb there...

It's not just MU that hates Notre Dame... we're just following the national trend.  Like the Cowboys to someone who didn't grow up in Texas, Notre Dame elicits detest from anyone who didn't attend college in South Bend.

There are plenty of fanbases from other schools that hate Notre Dame exponentially more than MU's fanbase.  Start with the major football programs, and work your way from there.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

I know all other schools dislike Notre Dame, but I bet you we're in the Top 10, even without football.

The lower concourse of the Ogilvie Transportation Center (formerly the Northwestern Train Station) in Chicago has 3 or 4 dozen of those lightbox-style signs scattered all over - around all the walls, coming down from the ceiling, hung on the support pillars, etc. Last week I got off my train to discover that every single one of those signs had been leased by the Notre Dame School of Business.  The entire concourse was covered in slogans like "Powerful Network - Legendary Brand", or "Leading at Every Level" - all in Notre Dame Colors.

Yesterday, the electricity had gone out in the building except for emergency lighting, and as a result, all of those obnoxious signs were dark.  I don't know exactly what happened, but I like to think it was the handiwork of some Marquette electrical engineers.
Have some patience, FFS.

Random story:  went to an ND football game when I was 20 with my Marquette roommate who is of Mexican decent, was tailgating drinking out of solo cups with my cousin who was a senior at ND.  Undercover cops came up to my roommate only, took him aside, arrested him for underage drinking in a sea of under aged drinkers and he was "banned from ND campus for life".  Pretty shady.

Every UW football fan would be thrown out of ND Stadium.

Is ND the most pretentious institution in academia, or are there worse?

I'm asking because I don't know.

MU is in the Top 10 for a lot of things.  Nothing to be ashamed of there.

Did he get that in writing?  Sounds like something that would be suitable for framing.

Random response:  my son's roommate at ND is a 19 year old first generation American of Mexican descent from blue collar Indiana town with a full ride; he drank a fair amount his freshman year but has managed to avoid being banned so far.

I need a therapist for my lifelong ND feelings.

Love (as a child);

then hate (as an MU student dating a SMC girl for the first year and a half before finding Mrs. Legs and into the early 90s);

then ambivalence (most of the 90's, when MU basketball was not a big part of my life and ND was not my radar screen);

then hate (immersion into MU bball beginning in the late 90's);

then a mixture of all the above (can't stand the ND alums who I don't know well who are of the "nice to meet you, did I tell you that I went to ND?" variety; but most of the ND alums I know well are great people, dedicated to the Church and service etc.);

and now with a kid there.

And I'm hoping my daughter chooses MU (I think I'll be banned from the board if she chooses SLU or Dayton, both of which are possibilities).

He did.  Actually had to go back to Indiana for a court date or else there was going to be an arrest warrant out for him in the state.  No actual legal penalties, but got the ban in writing from a Judge.  Not sure what he did with it.

Legs, if you need some help with exorcising that demon, let me know. I am highly qualified, having grown up in the SB area.  I went to probably 90+% of their home games with my dad for football and basketball growing up.  Even had the opportunity to go there. My passionate dis-taste for all things ND is well documented. ;)

GGGG

Being non-Catholic, I never realized how many Catholics loved Notre Dame football.  Especially those from the midwest.  I was fairly ambivalent about Notre Dame growing up.  I mean, I didn't even really know it was considered a "good school" until I got to MU.

I started my dislike the very first fall I was on campus and watched a good portion of the MU student body go ape-sh*t over Notre Dame football.  That really annoyed me.  I have (irrationally) disliked them ever since.

Sound like you my be the guy for my intervention, Chili.  Maybe a Clockwork Orange like set-up, forcing me to listen to Domers decked in their plaid pants singing the victory march and reminiscing about ... ee gads, that's enough!  I declare myself cured!

I'm going to the ND vs Michigan game this year @ND. Might need to call the Guinness book of world records and see if it's the largest gathering of tools ever assembled.

I am excited for it though. 7:30pm kickoff
Bring back FFP!!!

MUDPT

I generally dislike most schools with football teams.  Especially ND and Wisconsin, care way more about football than they do basketball.  It's almost unfair when they do well in basketball and Marquette struggles.  Basketball is just a distraction between football seasons.

Especially since it is the last one scheduled for now due to the ND ACC hook-up.
