I was at that game in the old Arena. It was the game that defined Rick Majerus' career at MU. Ever so close but could never push it over the edge.

It was a game Al would have won. Period. End of story.
Was there as well.  Should have won.  Along with with a very close loss to a very good Dayton team that same week, Majerus's career at MU was defined.

Whatever! Coaches put players in position to win games. Players are the ones that have to finish. End of story!

Agreed, but coaching and the confidence it builds gets what you need from your players.

Marquette lost that game because Rick Majerus was outcoached by one of the best ever -- Dean Smith. When the game was on the line, Coach Smith got the most he could out of his players -- and won. Al would have done the same and won the game, assuming he did not get hit with a technical foul.

If y'all remember correctly, we beat Dayton at the Arena on Saturday and UNC won a conference game that day also. They then travelled to MKE for the Sunday afternoon game.

Dean Smith was a pretty good coach, but I think he might have had a few players over the years to help him just a tad. Outcoached with a 10 point lead with two minutes left and no shot clock? If any player would have just taken charge it would have been over. Anyone! I respect your opinion, but that's all it is. I will agree that Rick did become an even better coach over the years, but he had an incredible basketball mind while at MU as well.

4 ever

Once again correct. We beat Dayton on Saturday afternoon and the excitement for Sunday was building by the hour. Th arena on Sunday may have been the craziest and loudest I ever saw it.

It was painful to watch the last two minutes! MU had the game won if they could have just had someone with some poise and confidence at the end of the game. Why do you ask? Do I know you? The reason I ask is, I had a ticket for that game but my coach wouldn't let me go. He decided to call a film session that Sunday instead.  ::)

You told me the story yourself.  Friend of your dads from Madison.  Not as good a story as Rick Majerus at the toll plaza.:)

Is that where he dropped a load into a towel on the Edens?

HOOPS 12---- Is that when Michael Sims went off with like 25 points. Long jumpers.  Your right, we had
the game won. Rick got outcoached at the end. If I remember Joe Wolf was a starter on NC and sank some key
free throws. Was there that afternoon. I believe, I have the right game.

Bob Lackey

This is an entirely appropriate venue to discuss the personality of Bo Ryan.

No, it is not. The Superbar or a Wisconsin Badgers fan forum is, however.

Again, people can claim Rick got out coached and maybe you're correct. I just felt like Rick did a heck of a job with his game planning and in the last two minutes no one, and I mean no one, wanted the ball. Pop Sims, and Kerry Trotter looked like deer in the headlights. You have to play 40 minutes to beat the best teams in the country! Rick learned from that game and continued to become a better coach for many years to come.

As for Keefe's comment the other day, all I can say is, you are a very different individual. (That's being kind!) Seriously, your posts are consistently odd, many times they are gross, and typically they don't stay on topic. Many of them don't even deal with basketball. I'm sure you will slam me for saying it, but I'm just stating the obvious. I worked with Rick and I was his friend for years. Did he have some habits that were different? Yes! Don't we all? If you would look past some of the stereotypes that people had developed regarding Rick you would have found a very loyal, common sense, genuine, caring person. He had a heart of gold and he never thought he was any better than anyone else. He expected a lot from his players because he wanted them to work for everything they got in life. He truly used basketball as a teaching tool for life. Again, you can criticize the man, but I knew him very well and I know you would be hard pressed to find a better friend than Rick. He was unique! With Rick you got what he was. He wasn't a phony like many other big time coaches. I would visit him every year and he would make me a priority. I was a school teacher for crying out loud. He cared about people in general. People that were billionaires (who considered him their best friend), individuals that were homeless, and everyone in between were all looked upon the same by Rick. He never let his success get to his head. He was good to me and would help me (and everyone else that asked) at the drop of a hat. I know he had moments that you can criticize, but who doesn't? Most of the stories you seem to bring up are fabricated or second hand stories. If you would've really gotten to know the man, you would have realized how unique and genuine he was. He is greatly missed by me and many, many others from all over the country and the world!

So you criticize one person for being different then defend another for being different? They must not teach rhetoric at UW Platteville.

Ha! Too funny. Defending yourself. ;D Well, if you reread my post I said everyone has "habits" that are different. We are all different in the habits that we have. That makes the world pretty interesting. However, I learned at home, at grade school, and all the way through my career that you should say things that are appropriate and treat people with respect. As for most of your posts, they are often "way off topic", gross, and inappropriate in nature. Most of them have very little to do with basketball. I don't know you at all. You are probably a very nice person. However, you use this board to degrade and use disgusting comments. That's what I'm talking about. So, you can talk about "rhetoric", but then I could claim no one ever taught you values, appropriateness, manners, and ethics. Clean it up and act like an adult. I'm betting you can't and your next post will most likely prove it.  :'(

Take care and have a nice weekend!

UNC in 86 was the most fun I ever had at a sporting event.   Insanity.    And a bad last 2 minutes.   That one was a program changer.
