It's a simple answer. Chicos worked for Crean. Like his previous boss, he is an insufferable name dropper. The better Crean looks in the annals of MU history, and the better Crean does at IU, the more weight his name carries. That way, Chicos can maximize the name when he shoehorns it into discussion, rather than being met with the reaction of, "you worked for THAT a-hole?" or, more likely, "Who?"

This. I don't know whether they're natural soul mates or if Crean's boorish behavior (name dropping, ok to be a prick to underlings, etc.) just rubbed off on Chico but they are peas in a pod.

Ok to be a prick to underlings?  Please, show me where I ever said that...ever.  I condemn it, I don't do it as a boss.  Is this like when you decided whom my hero is, now you get to say things I didn't say?  No, I don't think it's ok, but I have certainly acknowledged that many people have done it and get away with it...big difference.

Boorish behavior...nah, I'm actually quite a nice fellow, but I give what I get.  You treat me boorishly, I do the same.   Name dropping...eh...doesn't bother me what you think about it. I use it in context of real world experiences.  Don't like it, put me on ignore.  Really simple.

Incidentally, I worked with Crean for only a few months until my dad's sudden passing.  I could not care less about his overall success as it has nothing to do with me as I'm not in the coaching profession or a player.  Certainly hope he does well at IU since I'm an alum, but if he doesn't then another coach will get a shot.  His success has no bearing on my life at all.  It's always good to read the fascinations of Jujuman...you and he should create a clinic.  RiverRat can be your secretary.

Multiple times you've lectured me and the board on how a great guy can be a prick at work, that it's even necessary, so no, you don't condemn it. On many occasions you've defended it.

It's not just what I think about it. Obvious to anyone paying attention. You don't name drop or cite personal experience to give context, you shoe horn it (or sledgehammer it) into the conversation to scream look at me.

You weren't paying attention then, as usual.  So let me help you out again, as usual.  And as usual, you won't apologize for being wrong.  I said they acted that way to get their jobs done, but NOWHERE did I condone it.  NOWHERE.  I've also said there are many ways to skin a cat.  What I have found in my life is there are people that act the way he and Buzz did, not well liked by the staff.  The fear of God drives results, but over time it grates on people and you lose them.  It still gets results, usually short term and is successful in getting those results, the question is whether that works long term.  So can that action be successful and get results?  Absolutely.  Does acknowledging that fact mean condoning it?  Please.

It's akin to being a players coach or not.  Both styles can work, both styles have their shortcomings.  There is also the consideration of who is judging the actions.  Many people hated Bobby Knight, you hate Tom Crean.  Yet many of Crean's players swear by him.  Are they idiots?  Are they dumb?  Are you morally superior to them?  Do you know best?  Or, is the more logical answer that some people react differently to that treatment than others?  You can act as a coach to a player and players get it, but when you act that way with the travel secretary she's not going to warm up to it...nor should she.  You have to know who you are managing to and the best managers do not use a one size fits all approach.

What still warms my heart, Lenny, is your love for the prickish behavior of Buzz and K.O., that's all good, but you know where to draw that line.  Classic.

To each their own.  Again, put me on ignore.  We've had this conversation many many times.  Don't like it, ignore it.  I have plenty of people on ignore here and I have no doubt plenty of people have me on ignore.  Why do you make it so hard on yourself?  This isn't hard, it truly isn't.

Otherwise, no it is for personal experiences.  When someone talks about Merritt Paulson, well I used to work with him and can shed some light on it.  When someone talks of TC, well I used to work for him and Deane, I can shed some light on it.  Same for Bobby Knight, etc.  A unique perspective that very few have here.  Don't like it, don't read it.  Really don't like it, put me on ignore.  Then you don't have to worry.
