Travis Diener could still be drawing NBA paychecks if he wanted.

So you're saying that instead of receiving first-class treatment everywhere he goes and earning NBA pay (which has to be at least $1 million for somebody at his years-of-service level; he made $1.7 million with the Pacers before they cut him in 2010), Diener is choosing to be the No. 5 guy on a college coaching staff?

That's pretty funny.

We don't know if maybe he's trying to return to be closer to the family or perhaps it's because he won't work for less than 1mil that he's not getting those paychecks.  I'm sure someone would sign him for a 10day few hundred thousand or something but he wants to set a high price for his service and thus that sends him to coaching.
Retire Terry Rand's jersey!

If Travis never went to Europe, then it would be absolutely factual.

Nobody that's replied so far favoring the coaches are serious, right?  (or favoring them with Merritt even).  There's a reason they're not playing for money anymore overseas or elsewhere and are in the coaching business now.

+1

Our current team would destroy the coaches based on sheer athleticism alone.  I doubt anyone other than Diener would be very effective against our current team....as the other coaches have been out of the game (playing) for far too long.

Diener chose to play in Europe due to more PT and more $$$.  He clearly is leaving money on the table with this move.

Is that the same thing as a 'lock down defender?'

Okay, how about coaches against our team, but our team has to play Derrick Wilson at point guard 80% of the time?
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Prime coaches vs our team what do you think?

As a player, I loved me some Travis Diener and I rooted for him when he was in the NBA, all 160 pounds of him.

He had a nice little run for a couple of years as a 15 mpg role player with the Pacers. He then was cut by the Pacers and signed and barely used by the Blazers. He wisely chose to go to Europe instead of bouncing around the NBA as a 13th man.

To suggest that four years later, at 32, he could simply choose to be an NBA player again seems extremely optimistic on his behalf.

Travis got 21 NBA starts and a seven-figure contract, and he hung around long enough to receive a pension. That's more than I ever expected he'd get. Even great players' careers end, often not at their own choosing.

I'm thrilled he's back at MU.
