Not when you are with a brother. Black friend of mine insisted after a night of drinking. We white guys were worried we would be robbed, no problem whatsoever. Black friend told us we all had to have shoulder. "Quit ordering like a white guy. Brothers order shoulder". As a guy from Kansas City once told me "It ain't good que unless there are bars on the window".

We knocked back a few Sunday morning tombstones from the Schroeder dorm store t get us back on our feet.

I put down a few Tombstones and Stewart's in my day. The only redeeming grace was that you got your fill of grease and never had to break stride while drinking. The thought of eating either today is stomach turning, actually.

One of the things I liked about Milwaukee taverns is that people brought family there. And the link with their cultural heritage remained vibrant; look at how many corner taverns had large jars holding pickled eggs and pig feet for sale. I learned to play "Sheepshead" in Milwaukee taverns which was essential to surviving holiday gatherings with my in-laws.
