Pretty sure commits and their families don't have press conference to confirm a coach is staying or going. They become trusted "sources" for local and national basketball writers. Trusted national basketball writers spoke with them and delivered the news.

I agree.  But sometime soon, Shaka is leaving VCU.  I would bet within the next few years for sure if not this year.  For them to think he would never leave is just as crazy.  A few more early flameouts and maybe a few years of not making the tournament and he will lose his luster with the blue bloods really fast.  he knows this too.

Many of their fans acknowledge exactly that.  He will eventually leave for a blue blood.  In general, their board seemed pretty level headed.  They've been through this B.S. too many times (Illinois, UCLA, Minn, etc) to get worked up over the latest rumor.

Yeah, none of them have Twitter and they all have great self control.  In the end you may be right, just think that if this meeting occurred there would be some hard news about it.  The meeting was held to dispel the rumors.  Why not actually dispel them?

This is not a normal situation for a hire with the lack of a President and AD. Remember the situation that ended up adding to Buzz's departure - the coach was running the school (i.e. Larry's departure). They may have to rush the announcement of a President before they announce a coach. Shaka still has to keep in contact with his commits regardless of his coaching status to keep them calm. He still has to talk to his coaches and assure them that they're getting a paycheck. Everyone may just have to keep quiet until the administration is in order.

These are national writers, professionals, who are plugged into the AAU circuit, and focus on recruitment of HS players. They definitely have the connections to the coaches, since this is their bread and butter.

The response from MU Alumni acting like the Presidential Search Committee has just been sitting on their hands, but now all of a sudden jumped up and began looking for a President last Friday when Buzz announced he was leaving is plain wrong.
