Just re-watched Mayo's last shot...lost in all of it was Davante got great offensive rebounding position, and as he elevated the Providence player hip checked him...that's why his put back effort was so far off the mark...

Obviously refs are watching shot in air at the time, and hard to see the on floor action where the hip check took place...but it absolutely prevented DG from scoring what would have been game winner...and I'd put his chances at having made that shot at 95% without hip check..see attached picture..

One thing that is frustrating about the new rules emphasis is that it seems like nothing has changed in the paint but outside the paint if you breathe on a perimeter player it is a foul.

Bad year for us that the refs treat guards with kid gloves.  This is a good year to have quality guards, however it is our frontcourt that is our strength.

I agree it would be rare to have it called at home or on road...and given refs too can get caught up in watching the shot...I was surprised too that Todd missed it as wide right as he did..it grazed off rim perfectly into Davante's hands for what would have been an easy putback though..without the hipcheck..

I understand that you're not "complaining" about the play, but IMO that's rebounding.  It's a physical part of the game.  If they're going to call every hip check under the basket when the ball is in the air then the game is going to be a lot different.

Nope...not complaining about it not being called...would be hard to call that at that point in the game...but...generally when you gain offensive rebounding position as the offensive player...and the defender behind you hip checks you as you are elevating into the air...that is a foul that will get called during rebounding action.  I simply think the refs didn't see as they were caught up in the excitement of moment and watching the shot..or simply a function of time/score/locale...and to call it would have made the Dunk go insane...

Really thought Todd was going to make that shot though..

Just goes to show what a razor thin margin there is between winning and losing for this team.  There were probably a dozen little things like that last night that could have made the difference.  Then everyone be here praising the gritty comeback, instead of tearing the team apart.

Yes...watched that carefully as well..it left DG's hands at .01, no backboard light on...just too bad because there was a legitimate call that could have been made there...yet as I said..time/situation/locale...not surprised at all..

Agreed.. Although there were some veeeeerrrrrrrrrryyyy questionable calls made at key times down the stretch that went against us.  Too many for a game of this magnitude.

I was screaming about that live, hard to make a layup when you're being pushed out of bounds.

You can also go back and witness a blatant goal tend by Derosier on Gardner. Ball clearly hits the glass. Add to that the phantom out of bounds call on burton when he didn't even have the ball, or the 4 consecutive hand check fouls against MU in OT. College refs are a joke.

It should never have come down to that.  We missed multiple opportunities to end it well before the second OT.  Good teams take advantage, bad ones don't.

I thought momentum changed when we were hit with three tick/tack fouls within 30 sec. in the second half, and our committed fouls went from 2 to 5 in no time.  My thought was they are going to be shooting for 12-13 min.

Wonder why Buzz didn't bail out Jake with a TO when he saw what happened to the in bounds play at the end. And after Cotton put them ahead, why not use a time out to set up a play?

This is what I wonder... I can understand the no time-out with the jump ball, because that's a in-the-moment type decision and we were on the other side of the court. 

But why not call timeout to setup a play?  The Providence coach did the same thing at the end of OT#1... not calling a timeout when he could have setup a play. 

I guess you go into those situations with a play ready, and your hope is to not let the defense get setup.
