Did anyone notice DG double teaming the GT guards at the top of the key while leaving his man wide open at the basket for easy buckets in the last 3 minutes.  Is double teaming the opponents quick guards with the slowest player on the floor while leaving his man wide open at the backboard for easy baskets the dumbest defensive strategy in the history of basketball.  Great coaching Buzz???

It helps that Georgetown's 'bigs' only offensive abilities is dunking.   It is nothing new for Buzz to use a big to double the dribbler on the pick and roll and force the PG to the sideline, taking away his flow and making the offense start later from an unaccustomed spot.  Sometimes the PG is able to whip a long pass underneath to the rolling big before the recovery comes, sometimes the weakside help takes that away.    It certainly was effective late last night.

Absolutely good coaching. If you do it right, an entry pass to the key will be impossible. Because of the double team a shot or penetration is also impossible. The only option is to swing around the perimeter. It stalls the offense and often forces TOs. Sometimes you will get burned (like Smith Rivera leaning between the double team and putting up a long 2 at the last second) but more often than not, it works.

Thoughts today:

1. I hate the idea of putting Jamil on a quick guard. Late in the game, Buzz put Jamil on Starks. Jamil is good and has lots of talent/potential. One thing he isn't, is a player who can guard all 5 positions (like JFB was). Starks is much too quick to put Jamil on him.

2. Just like against Butler, late in the 2nd half, Buzz had the guys slow the game down. We were being successful running the floor and then an abrupt stop. The only rationale I can come up with was tired legs on the court. But we look like a totally different team pushing tempo rather than letting the D set up and playing a slow half court game.
