She's been with the Pac 12 the last year or so, prior to that with the NYC Marathon.

blurb

Veteran sports marketer Ann Wells Crandall is joining the new Big East Conference as its first CMO. She will begin her new job Sept. 10, based in N.Y. and reporting to Commissioner Val Ackerman. Crandall will oversee marketing and sales, including brand development, advertising and promotion, corporate sales and sponsorship, licensing and digital strategies. She will also oversee the conference's relationships with FS1 and MSG, which will host the Big East basketball tournament. Crandall most recently served as Pac-12 Enterprises Exec VP/Business Development & Strategic Partnerships.

But does she have experience in website design?

Is she related to C.J. Crandall?

Was CMO of the group that put on the New York Marathon before going out to the Pac 12 just this past January.  Worked for the NBA at one point in her career.

Hasn't worked at all in college sports, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Did she get the boot from NYC marathon over the poor decision to try and hold it after Sandy last year?

Hmmmm....  I don't think someone in charge of marketing would have that call, but who knows?

She's a former DIRECTV employee in my same department, she preceded my team by a few years...also a former alum of the mouse (Disney).  She went on to the NBA where she worked with cable and satellite companies on the TV side.

As far as the marathon stuff goes, this might help.

So she's like Miley Cyrus, hey?
yeah, she pantomines doggie style, and also burns the Crandall at both ends.
I thought you were dead. Willie lives rent free in Reekers mind. Rick Pitino: "You can either complain or adapt."

For a 20 year old, I'd say Miley had all those moves down pat and seemed to be in her comfort zone.

So what's your opinion on her hiring - will she be good for the BE?

I never met her.  Some folks still at DIRECTV or former employees that worked with her said she is solid, but she was fairly junior at the time.  With our love fest with the Pac 12 (I kid), you can imagine no interaction there.  I'm guessing Val knew her from the NBA days, but not sure if they crossed over or not.

So honestly can't answer as I don't know much about her on a personal level.  Will try to find out.

Less than nine months in her new job with the Pac-10 before deciding to return to NYC to work with the Big East.  Could be an interesting story there, as well.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

Quote from: muguru
No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Probably just wants to get back to NY and there is the Ackerman connection.  No good ole boys club or glass ceilings in this BE...   :D

Bear in mind that the "good ole boys" are exponentially more "ole" than "boys" these days... when these boys start dieing off in droves over the next decade, there's going to be a big sucking noise because a rapidly growing segment of leadership closed their door years ago.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

Bloomberg was the one who pushed for the Marathon to go on as scheduled.
