Buzz knew Vander was planning on leaving early. Buzz just thought he would be able to convince him to stay after the season. Bad gamble on his part but the team will be fine.

g0lden3agle

I actually thought that this was one of his better efforts.

fanofTR

Yeah, I actually dont see anything wrong with this article. Got a little bit of news in it as well when Buzz states that its about 80% recruiting for next year and limited time trying to find somone to fill Van's scholly this upcoming year. Nothing earth-shattering but its something I didnt know before.

MU Buff

He's wrong that we will lose more points and minutes than any other year under Buzz.  We lost more points just last year, not to mention what we lost after Buzz's first year.

Litehouse

The only problem I have with the article is this line near the end in which he gets 3 things wrong in one sentence:

"All Marquette has next year at shooting guard is rising sophomore Todd Mayo and incoming freshman Duane Wilson of Whitefish Bay Dominican."

1) He completely leaves out JJJ, who could potentially end up playing more than Mayo
2) Mayo is a rising Junior
3) I would expect Wilson to play exclusively PG.

He also completely leaves out Jake, who might get more minutes at SG than last year.

Plus he says we'll look to Mayo and Du Wilson to fill Vander's roll. I'd say JJJ is more likely than Du Wilson is at the 2 guard, yet no mention of JJJ

He completely ignored the possible injury to Steve Taylor too.  Hopefully his live blog in Atlanta will get us some choice haircut action to make up for this omission.

Not unreasonable to think JJJ will fill Lockett's role more than Blue's.

Right now Mayo is a Soph so he is factually correct.

If you are expecting anything from Jake then it will be a long year. I would leave him out too.

Once again...Mike Hunt stinks.

http://m.jsonline.com/more/sports/205344421.htm?page=1

Why?  I like the fact he came out and basically said how off guard Buzz was by Vander's decision.  Totally aligns with what Draft Express was saying, so many GM's, etc.  Vander just made a decision that is a head scratcher.  Further validates the relationship between Buzz and Goodman IMO...if Goodman is saying it, well it most likely came from MU via a handful of people.

No issue with this article at all.

classof70

Good article.   What was wrong with it?  Other than this dislike of Hunt.

MU72491

I thought it was a decent article.  Better than most of his for sure.  I thought it was interesting buzz came right out and said he was shocked about Vanders decision ( even tho he for sure was) and I'm surprised he didn't give Vander any love, he seems like the guy who would tell reporters that Vander is ready.  I don't know, didn't have any problems with the article but Buzz did seem like a good guy in that article all said and done, I'm glad he mentioned Juan to

mu_hilltopper

Hunt did a fine job there.  Good article.

Bingo. And, Marquette didn't lose three players as Jake is back. I'm sick of treating Hunt like he's a family member. "Oh, he is trying so hard!" Forget that. Get your facts straight!

Aside from neglecting to mention JJJ, this is a good article. It's chock full of Buzz quotes that make the statements for Hunt.

JJJ is a bad omission. Otherwise, it's just people nitpicking at Hunt because they're bored in the offseason and miss having the opportunity to nitpick at Hunt.

The Lens

When a beat reporter calls Duane Wilson a fill in at the 2 and leaves out JJJ, that tells me more what the coach is thinking.

Remember Internet police, Michael Hunt talks to Buzz Williams everyday, you don't.

The term rising sophomore indicates that he will be a sophomore next season, so it is not factually correct.

The term "rising" before a class identifier is coming into vogue as a way to avoid confusion as to whether the person being discussed is currently in that class or will be in that class next year.  It is a good idea but does no good if it is used incorrectly.

Anyway, other than that, I had no problem with the Hunt article, as he has more access to what Buzz is thinking than I do.

Wonder how Todd's doing in the classroom.  Need him to be on more solid footing/with team fully this year.  He was on par with Vander two years ago, his freshman year.  Need him to get his confidence back/ get more aggressive.

WarriorFan

At least he used spell check... and proper grammar.  Those seem to be achievements for Mr. Hunt.

And he is not complaining about public transportation.

So this article is a win.

No, it's not, "rising" means what his class will be next year.  Todd is finishing his Sophomore year, he is a rising Junior.

That would have been what I expected before Blue left. With Blue leaving that opens up the opportunity for JJJ to play the two. With Blue we might of played a three guard lineup. Now I suspect we play a two guard lineup. We have more depth for a traditional frontline than we have for a three guard lineup.

I'd rather have Hunt attempt to state the facts and be wrong than omit the facts and stoke a fire.

There will be times Buzz tries to dictate the pace and/or tone and goes with the old-schooly C-F-F-G-G lineup. And there will be times that he is forced to go small (or will want to go small) due to matchups. So much of basketball is about matchups.
