Saw the board polluted with Buzz buzz and was looking for a break.

We've all seen the MU big game implosion and/or national stage embarrassment that just ended our season way too many times...22% vs. 'Cuse most reminded me of the '03 FF elimination by KU as 2nd worst black eye I can remember.

But this year's team also gave us what I think is the most thorough whupin' in a big game performance, under the Klieg lights and national scrutiny as my 40-year memory can recall.  If it could only work like this all the time.

That thrashing of Miami, despite the modest 10-point final score, was as impressive as Marquette has been in this old reviewer's 40-year big game memory.  I'm gonna give it 2nd place.  Our annihilation of then #1-ranked Kentucky to get to the 2003 FF is my #1.

The FF win over Cornbread Maxwell in '77 was exciting, and offered the dramatic if not controversial finish.  My memory of the title game that followed was that it was a taffy pull where neither team really showed their best in our 7-point win, or whatever it was.

Novak's bonkers Big East opener vs. #1 U-Conn may be #3 on my personal list.  I'm a '76 grad dating myself back to 1972.  The kids can crab all they want, this was easily one of the "best" seasons, however you want to slice it, over the last 40 years-IMHO.  They were picked 7th in the BE.

Heck of a "rebuilding season," eh?

The Sweet 16 Miami game is (to this point) Buzz's Magnum Opus of his MU career. We outplayed, outshot, outhustled and outcoached the ACC regular season and ACC tournament champion. I will remember it for a long time.

Not to turn this negative but Saturday's game was no where near the implosion of the FF game (which was over well before halftime) nor was it even a black eye. It was very reminiscent of the Florida game from last season or the MSU game in '07. Marquette didn't play all that poorly, they just couldn't make a shot. A few years from now, this game will be a blip.

That said, this season was incredibly fun and definitely exceeded expectations. Conference champions and an Elite 8 appearance? Not bad for a team that was just about left for dead in December!

Absolutely right. That was a masterclass in coaching and execution. Beautiful to watch.

I went to the Kansas debacle in 2003 and the Syracuse game was nowhere near that!!!

Kansas ran us up and down the court collecting every long rebound and turned it into a layup drill.

Vs Syracuse we were patient, tried to probe the zone, actually had success for a 10 minute span but couldnt make shots.

We played really really good defense, in fact i would say the defense was just as good as the d we played at the BC vs Cuse.

Nukem2

Yes, the defense was good...Cuse just got easy hoops when things were winding down along with the FTs from fouling trying to catch up.  The issue was was shooting...effort was there.

Wait but one of their players got hit in the mouth in practice and their bus had to turn down 9 different streets and your giving credit to Buzz?
