Does the team normally stay at this Marriott while in DC?  Definitely not convenient... Other side of town and a 10 min or so walk to a few diff Metro stations... DuPont probably the closest.

Here's the latest schedule of events that I found off the Marquette Club of Washington, DC's facebook page (click on the events tab):

http://www.facebook.com/groups/MarquetteClubDC/

Wednesday

12:00 - 12:50pm - Marquette's open practice at the Verizon Center - FREE to the public.

6:30pm - ????  - Welcome reception at Hamilton's hosted by the Marquette Club of Washington, DC, 223 2nd Street, NW.

Thursday

4:45pm - 7:00pm - Marquette Pre-Game Reception at the Washington Marriott, 1221 22nd Street, NW.

7:15pm - 9:15pm - Marquette vs. Miami, Verizon Center.

9:15pm - ???? - Marquette Post-Game Recpetion at the Washington Marriott.

Friday

12pm - 2pm - Marquette Men's Lacrosse game at Georgetown.

I assume there will be more events announced after the Miami game.

Thanks for that info, Norm. I wish like heck that they were doing this at a venue closer to the Verizon Center. Unfortunately, it might not be worth the hassle, especially postgame.

Hopefully, some Scoopers have scoped out an alternate site close to the arena.

I'm not sure if it is the regular hotel or not or one that the NCAA assigned to them. The closest metro stop is Foggy Bottom/GWU on the Orange and Blue lines.

Hamilton's, the bar the MU Club of DC watches the games at, is closest to the Union Station stop on the Red line. You could also walk to the Verizon Center in about 15 minutes from there too if you wanted.

The Washington Marriott is at Metro Center on 12th, the Verizon Center is at 7th. It is a 5 block walk.

Nope, you've got the wrong Marriott. The one listed on the Facebook page is on 22nd. Google maps says it's a 1.9-mile, 39-minute walk. I like walking around cool cities and all, but not 2 miles at 10 p.m., thank you!

Didn't see the address listed, will check with some contacts and see if they are really staying at this one, a lot of other hotels make a lot more sense.

If I remember correctly, the NCAA makes the arrangements. So they probably won't make a lot of sense.

You are correct, as I mentioned earlier I didn't see the address and just assumed it was the one right near the Verizon Center. There will be a shuttle provided to and from the hotel.

The shuttle makes it a more attractive option. Please post info about it if and when you get it.

agreed, the washington is a little far. how about Hamilton's bar for pre/post game? sounds like that is the alumni meeting place for Weds, might as well do it again on Thursday.

kira67

Thanks for the links! I will definitely be at the reception on Wednesday. Thursday the doors open at 3:15 for the press so I won't be able to make it to the pre-game but if we win I look forward to other events on Friday/Saturday.

Norm

If anyone is planning on going to the reception on Wednesday at Hamilton's, it might help with the headcount if you indicated you were going on the facebook page (if you have a facebook account).

Serendipity:  Booking the Washington Marriott several days ago because I've stayed there before on business...and then learning today that it's the team hotel. ;D

For those who are worried, there should be NO PROBLEM walking to and from the Verizon Center.  Mapquest says 39 minutes on foot, but I'll be shocked if it's more than about 20.  And it would be a nice walk.  There are plenty of people out and about because you're walking through Chinatown, past the White House area, and then among lots of shops, restaurants and bars.  If you'd rather not walk but the shuttles are crowded, the best Metro stop would be Farragut North - about 3 or 4 blocks, then get on the red line Metro and get off at the Chinatown stop.  Fifteen minutes absolute max.

Aughnanure

Yeah, it's easy. DC is small. Just walk to the Dupont or Farragut North metro stop and you're pretty much done. Or take an $8 cab.
