Bo was deserving. I'd say Crean was more deserving.

+1. Plain and Simple.

I've often wondered about voting for college COY. In the NBA the coach is given players and the one that does the most with the least is probably the best coach. In college, the coach recruits and then coaches. So, is the college COY the one that does the most (like the NBA) with the least or the one that does the best (recruits and coaches, i.e., wins)?

I lean towards the coach that does the most with the least, but I don't know how the sportswriters vote (Bo won so, I guess that the Big 10 has spoken). In this case, Bo did the most with the least but Crean has the best team.

I agree, college coaching is a year-round job where you build your own team. Aside from new hires, if the bench is bare it's the coaches fault. We have been spoiled here by never having a down year as Buzz as always made a tourney team from what many thought was no chance. A coach shouldn't be penalized for bringing in talent or developing it into high expectations, they should be awarded for bring it in, cultivating it, and then winning. Just because you are a crappy recruiter shouldn't give you an edge for COY. Look at how pleased people were with Wright despite that "lack of talent" being entirely his team.

Bo Ryan should turn around and give the award to Traevon Jackson.  He had to replace one position - PG - and Jackson went in and took the position after Bo chose Marshall.  It may have even been fortuitous for Bo that Gasser went down because Bo needed a scoring PG.  From what I recall Gasser is not a good or efficient scorer (except against Northwestern).  Jackson won both the Penn State and Iowa games, which was the difference between 4th and 5th in what turned out to be a 5 team league.

Aside from PG, Bo had 3 Srs and a significant contributor returning.  They did the same thing that they always do.  When its good enough its good enough; when its not its not.  It's the same as when Boeheim gets coach of the year.  Would never vote for either.

GGGG

Traevon Jackson was incredibly inconsistent at point guard.  He did a good job because it is not his natural position, but he wasn't stellar by any stretch.

congrats to Coach Ryan and UW hoops.

now, let's getem' in the big dance and have Buzz do the WV 2-step all over 'em!

I'm a bit surprised Ryan won. He's done more with less in the past and always finishes fourth so this achievement isn't all that surprising even with the supposed next John Stockton not playing (talk about absence making the heart grow fonder, eh, Joshie?).

Real question is do the coaches vote for their brethren? If so, no shock Crean (who deserved it) didn't win it. Also no shock that Burke won over Oladipo even though Oladipo is odds on for National POY in some services because Crean crushed Oladipo's chances the moment he questioned how the conference selects player of the week two weeks ago.

Don't be caught unawares if Indiana doesn't win many individual awards in the near future unless it is a knock down no doubt selection.

Bo deserved this.  If you don't see that what he did with so little then you weren't really watching.

Injured players, low talent.  And they finished in a tie for 4th in the best conference in the nation.

I don't see how this is even a conversation.

They're were very few surprises in the Big Ten this year. Indiana won as expected. Ohio State, Michigan State and Michigan were close on their heels, as expected. Only Wisconsin in the top 5 exceeded expectations, and they did it in spite of the loss of (important because there was nobody behind him) Gasser. That tipped the scales in Bo's direction. I'm sure TC finished second.

Wow! A tie for 4th!
