Wins coach of the year????  Good for him, had some big wins, but I thought that Purdue home loss and almost penn state loss when having a chance to split the title would have taken him out for sure.  If I'm izzo, crean, or beilein, I'm a little perplexed.

Did the most with the most amount of traditionals.  That's a shoe in.
Assume what I say should be in teal if it doesn't pass the smell test for you.

Whether one likes it or not, it should be Tom Crean.  Going from the bottom to the top in short time frame is amazing.  Bo was just missing Gasser.

It was TC's until the 1am net cutting on Thursday and the bizarre post game ranting yesterday.

Maybe that's what Too Tan Tommy was pissed about yesterday and made him go all ballistic on Meyer's ass.

Bo deserved it.  Did a good job finishing in the top 4 considering the strength of the conference.

CAGASS24

I hear that; just thought the expectations for them changed a bit through by the middle of the conf record especially when it was clear Marshall and Jackson were doing their best to make up for gasser.  They really could have finished a couple wins better in the conf and weren't very consistent down the stretch.  But again, props to him.  Hope the state can lock down two COY honors!!!!

NavinRJohnson

Bo was deserving. I'd say Crean was more deserving.

"A couple" more wins means UW ties IU for the title. Finishing 2 games behind a team that had much better talent at every position and on the bench was award worthy for Bo.

Congrats to Coach Ryan on a fine season.    When MU was punkin' your team back in December, I thought the Badgers were NIT bound.     Congrats on being better than that.    And congrats to Buzz for taking down a coach-of-the-year from the supposedly best conference in the country.

Good for him. At least it wasn't crean or izzo.

IU was preseason ranked number with the best player in the country and another guy in the top 10.

UW was absolutely brutal until early January with horrific point guard problems and Carrottop missed a bunch of games with a concussion.  To get them near the title was pretty amazing.

Not sure Bo should've won but it appears to me Crean rolled the ball out to the by far most talented team.
And he didn't turn it around quickly.  It took 5 years. Bo won it his first year with 8 scholarship players, none which were exactly lottery picks.

Izzo and Matta were very derserving too.

TallTitan34

Should have been Crean.

MuMark

What Crean did in previous years has no bearing on this season.....it's a 1 year award and he had the best team coming in and didn't screw it up.

It's always harder to win COY when you are picked to win the league even if many times it is deserved.

Should have been Crean.
Crean accomplished building a team with talent, but he lost twice as many games as he should have with that talent. No way he should be coach of the year.

chapman

Bo deserved it.  That team looked dead in the water at the start of conference play.  The only player with more than an ounce of talent is Dekker, yet he managed 12-6 in the toughest conference.

jesmu84

How is everyone evaluating COY? Becuase often times, the argument for Buzz to win is who we lost in the offseason, combined with preseason predictions/expectations vs. final standings. If you're going by those standards, Ryan is much more deserving than Crean (they were preseason #1 with a preseason POY). Those of you saying Crean is deserving.. by what standards/metrics?

Should have been Crean.

Should have been if one limits the honor simply to number of wins. Fact is, coaches are leaders and Crean's outrageous behavior removes him from any consideration. If he matures and demonstrates more appropriate leadership traits and qualities then he may be considered. Until then, he is very far any such honor.

Did they do preseason conference predictions before or after Gasser tore his acl?

Stretchdeltsig

Congatulations to Bo.  Thought he coached better in other years than this year.  But, considering the mediocre talent on this year's team he did a great job to make them win.

Good to know that we award mediocrity.  Wisco finished 4th in a vastly overrated Big Ten Conference.  Weren't they preseason picked 6th place?
Yes, but that was before Gasser got hurt. When Mu played UW their guards sucked. UW's guards improved a great deal since then and you have to credit coaching for that.

bkooncy

What does COY actually matter for?  Nothing!  Good for the badgers they had a great season and have a chance to make a run.  Bo does more with weak recruiting classes than just about anybody in the NCAA.  For that I give him credit.

T-Bone

Well look who votes for it.  They have a separate media and coaches vote.  I'd guess Crean didn't get a whole lot of his fellow coaches votes.  And I have no idea what media votes, so who knows.

I didn't care so much until the cutting down the nets, and going after Meyer.  Now he's deep on the sh!tlist.  What a jacka$$.  (I know it's been said so many times)

Congrats to Bo.  Don't like his game, but he does it well and gets his players and fans to buy into it.

This made me laugh. Seriously though, how much of a jack hole do you need to be to be less desirable than Count Chocula?

Not surprising, they've been talking about it for a few weeks now.  He lost his starting PG before the season, finished 4th place.

The last 6 years, half the time the Big Ten a coach that won the championship didn't win coach of the year, especially if you are supposed to win the championship.

2008 Wisconsin won the title, Painter won COY
2009 MSU won the title, Izzo and DeChellis won co-COY
2010 MSU, Purdue and OSU won title, Matta & Painter won COY (Izzo did not)
2011 OSU won title, Painter won COY
2012 UM, MSU and OSU won title, only Izzo won COY
2013 IU won title, Ryan won COY

Crean is not liked by his fellow coaches or many in the media.  Not surprising he wouldn't win it.  Plus, being picked to win the conference and then winning it doesn't get you much.  Ask Rick Pitino this year, he won't win COY either because he was expected to win the title.
