The Georgetown student section tonight was pathetic in terms of attendance. Two ranked teams from the Big East playing and the Hoyas could not draw more than 400 students, if that?

As for coaches on the floor and bitching to the refs, JTIII takes a back seat to no one. In the first half, when MU was on offense, across from the GU bench, JTIII was on the floor constantly. From the 400 level we were hoping our PG would just dribble the ball into JTIII to pick up a technical on him.

First, almost all Georgetown fans and supporters will admit that Georgetown does not have great student and fan turnout. Additionally, I think most would admit Marquette appears to have very good turnout at its games. That being said, there are a lot of factors as to why Georgetown's student turnout is not (on average) as good as Marquette's. First, the Bradley Center is, what, 1/2 a mile from campus? Try getting from Georgetown's campus to the MCI center at rush hour on a weeknight. Second, Georgetown has less than 7,000 undergrad students. The student section at MCI holds about 2,200. To fill that means almost 1/3 of all undergrads have to show up. Third, and not to disparage Marquette, but Milwaukee ain't Washington, DC and the percentage of Georgetown students that have other commitments (interships, etc.) is higher than at any other college. Fourth, Georgetown has a lot of foreign students that could not care less about sports, and (sadly) a lot of other students that are apathetic as well.

Even with all of that, Georgetown still averaged more than 11,000 in attendance last season, fifth best in the conference.

And for a fan of a team coached by BUzz Williams to complain about another coach on the floor and bitching to the refs is rich. JT3 complain to refs less than any other coach in the conference. And I guarantee you'll never see him at halfcourt while the ball is in play. Everyone outside of Milwaukee knows Buzz is a buffoon. Anyone care to guess what he's going to do during next year's GU/MU game to kill his team's momentum?

Hey dat's not fair, we have a lot of students who set pins at da bowling lanes at night and others who get up right n early to milk cows in da morning.  So our kids have 'der fancy pant intern jobs too!

kchoya, does G'Town provide transportation to/from the Verizon Center?  Even though the Bradley Center is much closer to our campus, MU provides free shuttle bus transportation from the campus to the games and back.

I graduated in '98 (and from the law school in '01, but I had non-student season tickets), and moved away in 2002, so this is just my understanding of the current situation...

No shuttles or transportation to the arena. Until a few years ago, I believe the University provided school buses to/from the games, but that has stopped. Now students have to walk or shuttle over to a Metro stop and take the subway in. Or they can walk or take a cab. Whichever method they choose, it's probably an hour each way for a weeknight game. That's better than taking the trip out to Maryand and the old USAirways arena when I was an undergrad, but not much better.

I've never been to Milwaukee, but on the map it looks like the Bradley Center is a pretty short walk from campus. Is that accurate?

On average, it's about 1 mile from the middle of campus.  Naturally, some students may be another half mile north, so some are going 1.5-2 miles.

But MU does provide shuttles.

I always laughed at the students that would take the shuttle back after the game when it was a mess. They would wait 25 min in line  to get dropped off at the annex then back east to the dorms instead of walking a mile to Straz, carpenter, and Abbottsford. Some people are incredibly lazy.

UM, JT3 does complain to the refs - he was doing it last night. He was also out on the floor while Marquette had offensive possessions near their bench. Buzz went to half court because the refs kept ignoring him while he tried to call time out multiple times. If the refs do their jobs right, he doesn't have to venture to half court.

You may think Buzz if a buffoon, but he's taken Marquette to the NCAAs every year and to the Sweet 16 the past two seasons. He also develops players and has sent guys to the pros each of the past 4 years. He's also a great interview and a good guy. If he was your coach you would love him.

Thank you!

That's the problem, he's our coach. He has done a great job for us and is poised for greatness.

Having JTIII as head coach is well, like having Allie replace Al. I liked Allie as a guard at MU (except when he allegedly stepped out of bounds in Athens, GA, a BS call if there ever was one) but I'm not sure he should have succeeded Al. Same for JTIII.

Every coach goes on to the court....it's almost laughable to single Buzz out...... ::)

Except the JT3 didn't replace his father (I forgive you - I've tried to forget the Craig Esherick years as well). It's the Joey Meyer principle - you don't want to be the guy who direclty follows your Dad.

I'm not sure I see the downside to have JT3 come to coach Georgetown? A final four, BET championships, regular season championships, a 70% winning percentage and a clean program? Plus, Georgetown is only one of four (I think) programs ranked in the top 10 each of for the past four seasons (hopefully it'll be five). Sounds pretty good to me. Am I missing something?

Yes, I probably would like Buzz if he coached at my alma mater. And I dislike him much less than Creepy Crean.  ;D

Marquette's undergrad population is about 8,000 and our student section is about 4,000.  I'll spare you from doing the math; that's half of our undergrads, and we often do come close to filling it up. Don't get this board started on student participation.
Have some patience, FFS.

Buzz is definitely the worst of all coaches about being on the court. If fact. I think int he game at Marquette this year he ran into Markel Starks while he was on the court. Should have been a technical.

JT3 comparatively rarely is on the court and does not complain to the refs nearly as much as the average coach.

hoyasincebirth,

I live in DC and watch lots of Georgetown games, and yes, JT3 does complain to the refs - as much as any other coach. He's not as demonstrative with his body as say a Buzz or Pitino, but he gives it to the refs just like all other coaches.
