Is that what you hear?  Hertz dialed in?

Quite a difference from what you said not long ago.  "Gonzaga BB is in. Period."

What I said is that the Zags have a firm offer. There is definite interest by the 7 and Gonzaga but the Zags needed to study impacts. That has not changed.

How's the Japanese language thing going for you? I could ask Maggie Childs just how proficient you really are.

Hey guys, UR fan and grad here. I think our fans are mostly interested in the opportunity to join the new league if invited – primarily to join Marquette and Georgetown and to remain with X and Butler... and in some part to stick it to VCU, which has quickly developed quite the holier-than-thou following. I don't think Seton Hall, Providence, St. John's or Depaul do much to get most people excited, but I'm sure I'm not telling you anything you don't already know there.

We've been wondering what the huge appeal to Creighton is, though. They've been to the NCAAs three times since 2005 and are 1-3 there. We've been three times since 2004 and are 2-3. Richmond is the #56 TV market, and Omaha is #76. I understand they have a nice arena and get a good turnout for games, but I'm a little curious to hear other perspectives on them.

I don't know where UR will fall on this list. Most UR fans, I suspect, would be happy with any outcome in which VCU is not somehow elevated "above us" in some way. We are already treated at times like a stepchild by local media in our own city because our coach doesn't have a 70s porn name, and the VCU fans are becoming pretty insufferable. We enjoyed beating them last month and look forward to sweeping them in March.

Would enjoy having you all as conference mates if the powers that be deem it appropriate!

UR's best shot is a report that Georgetown is pushing for your inclusion.  Due to football, academics, and location, I suspect.  Are you guys playing Villanova and Georgetown in football now?
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Eight Legger

Yeah, we're in the CAA for football with Villanova and have been for years. We won the national title in I-AA in 2008 and they won it the following year. Georgetown has a football team, but it is basically a DIII program. I think they play in the Patriot League. We played them in back to back years recently and won both times by 30 or 40 points.

Villanova fans seem to have something against us, which is odd given our football history with them. The schools are very similar academically. Hopefully they are pulling for us and not trying to blacklist us.

dwaderoy2004

Sorry, but I'm not pulling for you as the 10th team.  Or even the 11th or 12th team.  I'd rather Creighton, VCU, Dayton and SLU be in before Richmond (and Gonzaga and ND, but I think those are long shots at best).

OMG OMG OMG what if marquette got a football team and the the c 7 or whatever had a really crappy catholic football league that played at like high school stadiums?  You know that would be awesome.

keefe

Marquette had a club football team in the 90's. I remember their coach, Norm Killion, posted on Juno's board asking guys to come out. I heard he would wander the cafeterias at night begging guys to come out and play. Not sure whatever happened but I guess it shut down from a lack of interest.

We could then bet on it and make it rain Combos!

The whole point of leaving the Big East is to not let football dictate any more decisions.

IF the C7 resurrected/established club-level football teams these would in no way generate revenue and would therefore not dictate terms of engagement. I like the idea of playing in High School stadia.

I was with PepsiCo in Asia but PepsiCo Foods International was HQ'd at the Galleria in Dallas. Because of frequent trips back to Dallas I cut a deal for a tax free housing stipend rather than hotel it all the time and bought a pop up mansion in Plano. I went out to the Plano HS football games and they had 20,000 butts in seats on Friday nights. That is more than attend Marquette games only Plano sold out every game! I recall the Plano starting O-Line weighed more than the Cowboys starting 5...this was in the mid 90s.

You might mean...... "to not let FBS football dictate any more decisions"......

FBS football greater than men's basketball.

Men's basketball greater than FCS football.

I've said this in multiple posts, but in addition to a good basketball conference, adding Creighton and St. Louis are key to making this a really good soccer conference. And if Gonzaga can't join, then adding VCU also strengthens the soccer portion.

Is soccer even in the way, way, far, far, distant back crevices of the minds of the ADs/presidents/TV networks in putting this conference together?

From what I hear Zags want in for basketball but prefer another home out west for Olympic sports. That is where they are at. Also, they are involving BYU in discussions, fwiw.

Hard to believe a football school is being bandied about at all. Yeah, they are independent now. But if PAC-19 comes calling four years from now, wouldn't they jump? Do we really want that? More importantly, do the decision-makers really want that? I thought the C7 were declaring independence to get away from that.

Having said that, I'd take ND in a nanosecond. But ND is far more likely to stay independent in football. And ND is ND.

From what I hear the Zag - BYU nexus may have some merit and is certainly a variable under consideration. What I do not know is how serious the C7 are about this potentiality.

I wonder how the people at ND are feeling about the situation.  Has it crossed their mind that they could be a part of the new league?  They would have 0 pressure from the conference about their football decisions and I'm sure they would have more success in basketball in the new league than they will in the ACC.

I'm sure ND is quite content—right now. However if the Big 10, Big XII, and SEC pick off UNC, UVA, Georgia Tech, Clemson, and FSU...the ACC is suddenly not much better than C-USA in football.

Haven't heard anything about Duke, Miami, and NC State. Does another conference want them?

Popular rumors are: UNC, Georgia Tech, or UVA to the Big 10. Clemson and FSU to the Big XII.

George Gee presser, and Bowlsby comments triggered the World Wide Leader to report possibility of:

B1G: UVA and GIT

SEC: UNC & Duke

Big 12: VPI, NCSU, Clemson, FSU, Miami, Plus one

Rumor mongering but it was on ESPN

Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam. (Google it and Creighton's addition (or Gonzaga or SLU) will quickly make sense).
