My take: John Marinatto was, as I recall, a long-time, loyal Big East employee who was promoted when his boss retired. He inherited a lot of the current problems, but he also did little to adjust -- instead of just react -- to the very-fast-turning series of events that affected the Big East and most major conferences over the past 12-24 months.

It's time for some very fresh thinking and some vision of what's coming next. It's a good time to clean house, to discern why we even have athletic conferences any more, and to look ahead to what conferences will be in the future.

ESPN news cast quote; "The Big East saw a mass exodus while Marinatto was commissioner."  I guess that ESPN is still trying to get the football contract numbers down.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

One of the football schools proposed a 75/25 split of the new TV contract money?!  Even though football drives the NCAA athletic bus, there is no justifiable reason for that disparity.  It's beyond ridiculous.

Edit to add:  I don't think any of the BEAST BBO schools deny that football drives the TV contracts.  I think what the BBO schools are concerned about is dilution of the BEAST BB brand.  Why continue to have the nation's premier conference tourney, in the best venue, if the TV contract requires airing of worse than horrible (i.e., worse than Depaul) teams? The BEAST brand would lose considerable equity by associating with some of the proposed teams to be added.  Unfortunately, I have no solution.

Good, the guy F'ed up since he has been in.  He should go.

The BE has screwed up the last 10 years in my book.  They should have handed ND an ultimate to join the BE in football with some type of scewed revenue sharing agreement.  This would have forced ND's hand to join and would have solidified the football memebership.

Many say ND would not have capitulated, I disagree.  As long as the revenue sharing was fair to them they already are playing 3-4 BE teams each year.  Additionally, ND has no place for their Olympic sports and playing in the ACC or Big Ten would have been universally disliked by the current alumni who love them coming to NYC, Philly, Chicago, Louisville, Cincy, Providence, etc. etc.
It allows them to stay relavent in their area of strenth in recruiting for students and student athletes alike.

Not. A. Chance.

To be honest, I think that is generous of the football schools.
