Did the Vikes call Jae too?  Buzz said NFL teams had asked about him back during the tournament...

I guess I don't see it, Jae is not overly gifted athletically, he makes up for it with hard work. The basketball players that have succeeded in the NFL are freaks, even Gates was a monster in his younger days.

Might do well on Dancin' With The Stars.

Jae at 6-6 can carry 250 lbs is a pretty good athlete at that weight.  Plus he has thick Lower legs which you need in football.  I think you would be surprised how good he is compared to people that are 250.  There are guys that are 6-6 210 that are better athletes but they are not TE's.

REALLY??

You do realize that basketball players that compete at the Big East level are world class athletes do you not?

at 6'6' 240 to even be able to step on the floor of a BIg East game let alone be the Big East player of the year puts you as one of the top athletes in the NFL

Um, Gates put up very similar numbers in college to Crowder playing in the MAC. And sorry, but you don't win BE POY by hard work alone--you have to be pretty darn gifted athletically as well.

So it sounds like what differentiates the two is that Gates is a "freak" whatever that means.

Let's not forget that Jae was an awesome football player, although not a tight end during his HS days.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Wow, you finally broke down and got of them new fangled TV thing-a-ma-jigs, huh?

There are guys in the NFL who weight 270 and run 4.5 40s and have 35-37" vertical leaps. Graham, Peppers, Gate etc. are "freaks" and can go to the NFL without ever playing football at the highest level. Gates ran the 40 in 4.5 and had a 40" vertical, as did peppers and graham. So yes he's gifted, but not 'overly gifted". Jae isn't a great leaper and doesn't strike me as extremely fast. There are Heisman award winners who don't succeed in the NFL, you can't just walk onto an NFL field because you're good at basketball.

And this statement, "at 6'6' 240 to even be able to step on the floor of a Big East game let alone be the Big East player of the year puts you as one of the top athletes in the NFL", should be put on the most preposterous statement list....stepping on the floor for a big east game puts you as a top athlete in the NFL. Wow.

Very sensitive on this board when posters are realistic with players' futures.

I wonder how far we would have gone in the tourney last year if we had Rob Gronkowski at starting center...

Not sure what that statement means, but Peppers was at UNC on a football scholarship, he just happened to play on the basketball team on the side.

Well, I do know this--Jae was a MUCH better college hoops player than Gates was.  As for how that would translate into the NFL, I don't know.  I wouldn' label Jae's NFL potential as "preposterous".

It would be interesting to see Jae go through the NFL combine to see how he'd stack up; 40 time, bench reps, etc... (as if those matter *COUGH* Mike Mamula *COUGH*)

It looks like Jae has moderate weight room strength at best. According to the latest Paint Touches article he was only able to do 16 reps at 185 lbs on the bench press.

True, it's only a bench press, but it pales in comparison to NFL talent that uses 225 lbs at the combine as a measure of strength.

This dude Paea on the Bears allegedly set the record with 47 reps a year ago, which is completely insane. Think about how much weight you could throw up 47 straight times!

He has a legit shot at the NBA.  I'd take that over the NFL any day, so I'm not sure where this infatuation with foootball is coming from.

You mean the near-certain risk of turning your brain into putty floating around in barber shop fluid isn't infatuation worthy?

In ten years, people will talk about football like 4ever talks about how MU basketball used to be.

Personally, I have hoisted 12 ozs. over 470 times, and with one arm too!
