While it is difficult to follow up the results of Donavan, I would disagree that a Final Four appearance would not be enough to make the fans happy, especially since they lost practically all their big players to the NBA.  If they are a Sweet 16 team, i think the fans would still be fairly happy since they would have a new coach and pretty much a whole different starting lineup.

I see that job as a lateral move, and not necessarily a step up.

So, other than money, why make a lateral?

You have to be kidding?

The problem I see is simple. Who in their right mind would want to follow Donovan coming off 2 national titles?  Whomever it is, will be run out of town by year 5 if they don't win another...a Final Four won't even be good enough.

That alone makes it a less attractive job because of the insane expectations.

The expectations are one of the reasons the lateral move comment was so out of touch. It is not unrealistic to expect Fla. to again challenge for a a NC with the right hire in the next 5 years.

The downside of the expectations is another issue. If a coach is not confident that he can keep things rolling he may want to stay away. What will help is that Florida is a football school. There is less pressure on the basketball coach compared to football. There will be a honeymoon period with the major focus on the gridiron.

Sloan, Kruger and Donovan all had success at Florida. No reason to believe the right coach would not also have similar success.
