Will we miss Calhoun three years in a row?

Andy Katz @ ESPNAndyKatz
UConn announces that Jim Calhoun has spinal stenosis and will take an indefinite leave of absence since he's physically unable to coach.

chapman

Hopefully it lasts 15 days.  I like our chances even better against a slumping team with Blaney coaching.

RJax55

I wonder when he retires... Could it be after this season?

lab_warrior

I was really surprised that he didn't retire after last season--going out on a high note--since it's been kind of rumored for the last couple seasons.

TallTitan34

Going out a champion with NCAA sanctions ahead.

I'm very surprised he didn't leave.

Is it me or does it seem like certain coaches problems always seem to surface when their team is having a down year?  Calhoun, Coach K, etc..

Call me suspicious.

I don't know....Spinal stenosis is a pretty ugly thing to have.

Sure. He faked his prostate cancer surgery.

Yeah that's a little ridiculous.

You really think guys like Coach K and Jim Calhoun need to run from a bad season?  They have multiple National Championships each.  They have nothing to prove and will be at their respective position until whenever they decide they don't want to be there (or can't be there), and then they will walk right into the Hall of Fame.

I don't think anyone thinks they have something to prove.  I do think the timings of various coaches decisions is suspicious.  How many winning years did Coach K have and yet one of his few losing seasons is the one he sits out?  I am sure they were/are sick but maybe would have toughed out the season had the the team been undefeated.  However since they are having a down year they decide to sit it out.

Not a crazy assertion.

Coach K was coming off of an NCAA runner-up appearance.  He was 9-3 when he left for the rest of the year.  The year he came back was a 13 loss year, which is still the most he has had since he started the run at Duke.

Are you really insinuating that people are faking prostate cancer and back problems to avoid coaching a poor team?

So when I state "I am sure he was sick" that is insinuating he is faking an illness?  Would be nice if you actually read my post corectly.   ::)

The "I do think the timing of various coaches decisions is suspicious" kind of undermines your sincerity.

SIGH.  What I mean by suspicious is that if their teams were having undefeated seasons they would find a way to come back during the year.  Case in point is Coach K who didnt officially  announce he was shutting down in 95 until Duke was 1-7 in ACC play.

Where does it say Calhoun is out for the season?  I must have missed that one.  If you could link that, please.  Much appreciated.

Actually Coach K was 1-1 in conference play when he left for back surgery.  He tried to come back too early and threw in the towel later due to exhaustion.

If I recall he officially said he would not return in late Jan after their season was pretty much done. He left the team in early Jan but leff open the possibility of returning. He never did.

Calhoun is having spinal surgery. He's probably forcing the doctor to perform the surgery solely so he can cover up the fact that he's truly healthy, but he just needs an excuse to stay away from his horribly coached, horribly performing team.  ::)

The Huskies have been on a leave of absence pretty much the entire Big East season.

Or one could push off the surgery to after the season is over.  Maybe he would have done that if they were 30-1 right now.

I think now would be a good time to revisit those posts dealing with the futility of continuing to dig when one finds oneself in a hole.....

You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

For one I didn't re-start this post.  For two, I am not creating topics just to attack other posters.
