Is it correct that if two teams tie for first place in the Big East they are co-champions?  The tie breakers are only used for seeding in the Big East Tournament.

If Louisville were to beat Syracuse twice and we win out this would happen.  Louisville has recently owned Syracuse.

EDIT: This seems to support co-champions.

Last year we tied for 9th, but got the 11th seed. Which led to most people claiming we finished 11th. We tie Syracuse and we will be the second or third seed. Remember Notre Dame could tie them too. Both of them would be seeded ahead of us.

I understand tie breakers are used in seeding.

But in determining conference champion it appears there are no tie breakers.

My point is if Louisville sweeps Syracuse and we win out we would be Big East Conference Co-Champions.

That is correct. They would be co-champions.

So Louisville beats Syracuse twice, we win out and we're conference champs?

Yes.  That is the way it always has been.  The seeding has come along with the end of the season tournaments and is used only for tournament purposes.  Last year, MU was 9th (place), not 11th (seed).

hang the banner!

Actually I'd say it's banner worthy.  Even though we would have finished tied with one (maybe two) team that beat us.

Conference championships and final fours are my criteria.

We'd have a share of the regular season title, and can hang the "Regular Season Champions" banner.  The "Big East Championship" is the tournament; if we want a banner that just reads "Big East Champions" we have to win a few in the Garden.

The 2003 Conference USA banner at the BC was for the regular season.

I don't think it matters now with Syracuse beating Louisville.

Three way tie for 9th place, but got the 11th seed because we were deemed worse of the three that were tied on the basis of head to head, etc.
