Vanderbilt encouraging attendance to women's game...
« on: February 09, 2012, 11:28:52 AM »
If you want decent seats to the Men's game vs. Kentucky...

http://www.barstoolsports.com/barstoolu/super-page/reader-email-vanderbilt-tells-students-who-want-tickets-to-kentucky-game-they-have-to-go-watch-womens-game-first/

Thoughts?

I'd loathe marquette if i was still a student and they did this for Marquette/Syracuse or some likeness.

How do they think those fans are gonna act at the women's game?
The shaka sign, sometimes known as "hang loose", is a gesture of friendly intent often associated with Hawaii and surf culture.

I think it's a pretty clever way to drum up attendance.

You would loathe them really?  Loathe?  Good on Vandy.  They see a product of their own (women's b-ball), that needs help, and thinks to themselves...hmm, we have this other product that we can't keep in stock, and people are paying a huge premium for.   What if we tried to link the two, to make them both successful?

And PS: The title implies Vandy is indeed forcing people to go to the women's game to get good seats.  They aren't forcing anyone.  If students find it sooooo objectionable to cheer for the women's b-ball team, they can log on to stubhub, and pay to get good seats for the game.

If it guaranteed me good seats to a big marquette game and meant I didn't have to wait outside the Bradley Center for hours pregame, I would love this promotion.

Furthermore, it's not even a bad women's game.  Vandy is 18-5 and UT is ranked #11.

Yes, I would. What if i was unable to make the women's game because of an exam or other activity, but didn't have any conflicts with the men's? I'm punished for it, even though I'm as much a ticket-holder as the group that went to the women's game.

sure, you might not wait as long men's pregame. but you're still going to probably wait to get into the women's game, then have to wait to get out of the women's game, then have to wait again to get into the men's game (just not as long as the general students). the wait times are probably comparable; and you've just sat through 2 hours of the women's game.

You don't have a right to a ticket you know.

Ah millennial generation. You only used the word "I" four times in that post.

i think if i purchased season tickets, i'd have the right to a ticket. i might not have the right to a particular seat, though.

i also wonder if you'd have to buy a separate ticket to the women's game, or if they're included like MU

Most importantly, I think this is pretty condescending to the womens' team. Any activity, no matter how competitive, sucks way more when a bunch of the people don't want to be there. I'd rather play in an empty gym than know the crowd is only being bribed to be there.

I disagree.  Once people get in the door, voluntarily or otherwise, some are bound to get sucked into the action and become fans for at least that night.

socrplar125 may have just started one of the most condescending douchey (and thinly veiled sexist) posts I've seen in a long time.

HOW DARE VANDY PROMOTE THE WOMENS TEAM.

Sultan and Reinko are correct, and you look like a self entitled unnatural carnal knowledgebag. I'm sure there's an occupy protest looking for you

I still have nightmares about that Vandy game.  May have been their best game and MU's worst.

My apologies for starting the thread. I didn't realize it would Make people so upset. The personal insults weren't appreciated, but I understand where they came from.

I certainly didn't mean it as an attack on women either. I wouldn't like the situation if it was any event/sport, regardless of gender/group.
