Are there more doors or wheels in the world?

I don't have any further stipulations/definitions, but it seems we do need to make some.

Does a gear count as wheel? What about a wheel involved in a pulley?

Does any type of door count, such as a cabinet door

Damn it! This has gotten into my head in spite of myself.

My initial impression (assuming gears and pulleys aren't "wheels"): It's got to be doors. My logic to this was that the most common source of wheels (i.e., cars) also have doors that will cancel out the wheels. For example, the average sedan would have five wheels (I'm counting the spare) but would also have four doors -- five if you count the trunk (which I probably would) and six if you count the hood (which I probably wouldn't; I also wouldn't count the glove compartment, etc.). So, by my thinking the cars would essentially cancel out. I considered that coupes and 18-wheelers would add more "net-wheels" but was still coming down on the side of more doors when considering commercial buildings.

To test my theory I counted considered my cars and home. Three cars - 15 wheels and 15 doors. But we have 30 doors in our house (including only actual doors and closet doors; not cabinets or refrigerators). So, +30 doors. I was convinced that doors was the winner. But  then I remembered...we have five bikes -- that's another ten wheels...so it's closer than I was thinking. Oh yeah, we have several skate boards at four wheels apiece. It's getting closer. Then the kicker...hotwheels. Oh crap, if we're considering toy cars, that's a game changer.

Currently, I'm leaning toward wheels. But I'm still going to be thinking about it...even if I don't really want to.

Would you consider casters on office chairs or other furniture wheels? If so, it's not even close.

Golf carts, motorcycles/mopeds, wagons, tractors (some would have at most 2 doors), snow blowers, lawnmowers...

I'm talking myself into it being wheels.

trains have lots of wheels.

Also, eject barstool into the sun.

If you're counting skateboard wheels you gotta count cabinet doors etc.!

Its 100% wheels.  Think of a house.  You have maybe a dozen doors?  Now 2 cars, 2 bikes, a lawnmower, an office chair, a vaccuum cleaner, etc.. and you have double or triple that amount.

Actually, I was a little surprised by the number. I was thinking it would be fewer, but once figuring in closets (which have multiple doors each) the number went up quickly.

Cars and trucks, sure...but also train cars, planes, golf carts, bikes, scooters, mopeds, trolleys, dollys...

...and toys. How many Hot Wheels, Match Box cars, Tonka trucks, Lionel trains, etc. are there in the world? Not to mention skate boards, roller skates, ripsticks, etc.

I wonder how many doors in all of the world's office towers etc.

If each office has 1 rolling chair, much less 2-3, that evens out REALLY quick.

Wouldn't sliding doors that have wheels cancel each other out?

Except that I think most sliding doors - if not all - have at least two wheels. That would be a net +1 for each sliding door.

mu_hilltopper

It's wheels.

We have a big bucket of hotwheels cars that puts my ratio at 100000000 to 1.

Even without it, think of all the cars (4+spare) .. lawn mowers, wagons, bikes, chairs/sofas/cabinets with wheels.

Garage door has like 20 wheels.
