Why play Jim McIlvaine if Shaq is on your team?

Because if you played both Jim McIlvaine and Shaq at the same time, in a high school game especially, no opponent could get to the rim when you're on defense and you'd be dunking all over the place on offense. That's why there are so many project bigs that come out of high school and don't perform at the college level. They didn't need to rely on skill in high school. They were so much bigger that they were able to dominate. If Aaron's already ahead of where CO was at this point, awesome. I just don't understand his coach's decision to keep him on the bench. It seems like Aaron would benefit from the playing time and his current team would benefit from having he and Ridley in at the same time to control the paint on both offense and defense.

Aaron wants to play. That is the only way he will get to practice on his skills. We as a family support the Bush team. Aaron is a team player. That's why we are so very happy that we signed with Marquette because in his 5 very short years in the states Marquette has seen the TOTAL package. Aaron has never had a coach that understood that he has lived in other countries for most of his life, other than Marquette. That is why it was such an easy choice for all of us. We loved that we signed with a GREAT TEAM and also a GREAT FAMILY!

You keep saying things like this over and over again!!!  I don't care who else is on his team.  He signed with Marquette, not Eau Claire.  You don't have 2 pts and 1 board in a HS game at that size.  He consistently struggles to get in the game!!!

Amal McCaskill scarcely played in high school. He then went on to play in the NBA.

I don't coach the team. But from what I understand, the coach seems to feel like Cam Ridley is the second coming. Considering he's got a 5-star, top-ten in the country center and another 2-star, collegiate project center, which are you going to play? Are you going do the equivalent of splitting the minutes 80-20 when it seems like Ridley is capable of playing 95? Maybe both are pure centers. Maybe, like Otule and Gardner, they aren't the types that can coexist on the floor. Maybe the coach has been working with Ridley since he was 8 years old and watched his prodigy blossom, whereas Durley just moved over here a few years back. I don't know what the reason is. But he was putting up numbers for the Houston Hoopstars, and that was with Ridley on the team.

Maybe he's a project. Maybe he's a victim of the coach not liking him much. Maybe he's simply not on Ridley's level yet. But he played for his AAU team, he apparently did enough to convince Buzz and company that he's worth the scholarship, and it would take a complete moron to miss the fact that we desperately need the kind of length Durley brings to the table. With Gardner and Otule both now possibly here until 2013-14, Durley may not have to step into a starting role until 2014-15. That gives him two full years on campus to work on his body and post play against two experienced D1 centers. If it doesn't work out, we cross that bridge when we get there. But for now, I don't get why everyone's undies are in a bundle.

We desperately need length. We have a guy coming in with some of that requisite length. And like it or not, scholarships are renewable 1-year contracts. This is something to be happy about, not irate.

I welcome Aaron to the fold with open arms, but like marqptm pointed out, I'd advise Aaron's family members against posting about him on here. It never ends well, and there are some flat out idiot posters that will needlessly try to degrade even our best players. Sadly, sites like this probably aren't the best resource for MU players and recruits to understand what the Marquette community is all about.

Welcome to MU.   The vast majority here are looking forward to seeing Aaron grow and develop.    The vast majority also understand that it will likely be a process.    Like all large, extended, contentious families, we have 4th cousins once removed who say stupid stuff from time to time.    Try to ignore them.    Or to at least not take it personally.     Again, welcome to MU.

Yeah. I agree, there are 13 scholarship players and buzz typically plays 8-9 guys during conference. I think MU can find a spot for a 7 footer.

Please please please don't put much stock in what you read on this board, especially after an MU loss like today.  It has become a place dominated by those spewing negativity towards the team and players, rather than a place to actually discuss basketball.

There's only a handful of schools that can take him right now. Buzz is in the red zone right now with an elite player, he needs to score the touchdown.

I'm wondering what the competition is like.  Is it one of those Texas "hotspots" with a ton of talent, or your typical high school ball where a 6'10" giant can dominate based on size alone.  If he'd have then chance to play against other D1 PFs and Centers more often than not I'd question the choice of high school for this season.  If a 6'10" player can dominate based on size alone it does little good to go find game playing time against 6'5" centers and it doesn't benefit him much to play alongside Ridley-in that case he's in the best situation, practicing against Ridley.

This is the best post of the thread.  No need to continue with this as this definitely sums up my views and probably 90% of the MU community.  No more to be said IMO.
