We are seeing the benefit of a top recruit from the prep circuit.  Last year he was playing better competition than any HS conference.  His transition has been pretty seamless,  but ultimately that is more of a testament to the kind of player he is.  He is not the typical timid freshman.  He has a lot of confidence in his ability and that's what separates himself from most freshman.  He made a great choice coming to MU.  He would be a scorer anywhere,  but here he is going to maximize his defensive ability as well.  

I also have the impression that Mayo is not going to have a dropoff come conference play,  but rather continue to improve.  He's going to be well known in the Big East for years.

In my mind Jae's pass made up for his sub par performance this was one of the top plays of the game

Hopefully,  Mayo's attitude will rub off on Anderson.  He's ultimately good because he knows he's good.  I wish all of our recruits had that attitude.  Every single big time player at MU could have done more as young players if they had the "balls".  Mayo is intent on attacking right away.  He was 0-4 from 3 and still had a very positive impact in beating a team in an almost impossible place.  We have already seen him hit 3's in bunches and there will be games where he is 3-4. Todd knows he's good and he is going to see it through.  Usually good bloodlines are overrated.....Jordan's kids?  However,  I'm liking the O.J. bloodline.  Todd has a lot in common with O.J.  They both constantly attack.  I've never seen a MU Freshman attack like he has.  He's the #3 offensive player on the team IMO.

He's a major part of what I think is a top 10 team.

A freshman that plays like an above average upperclassmen.  He is a keeper.

Ever since I'd seen Mayo's YouTube highlight video, around the time he verballed to MU - the player he reminded me of was D-Wade (though I qualified that of course with saying I'm not saying he's going to be as good as D-Wade).  He wore #3 at Notre Dame prep - and if you watch his highlight video he has a GREAT sense of rhythm, shake bake, different release points on his shot, a great feel of tempo..just a cerebral-nessa about him that is very D-Wade like. 

IF DJO had the same rhythm/tempo/feel DJO would be an absolute monster/lottery pick.  DJO tends to be 110% fast forward all of the time, and that actually is easier to defend, yet also can lead to out of control possessions.  You will never see Mayo look out of control - much like we never saw D-Wade appear out of control..

The kid is a stud and love his confidence. He wants to make plays and wants the ball. His role is going to have a very big impact on the season. Even when he misses you can tell he expected it to fall. When he is in the game I find myself watching him more than the other guys.

I, too, am sold on Todd Mayo after watching him play in person at the Kohl Center.  He looks cool and confident and attacks the basket in a controlled, seamless way.  The other team has to account for Mayo or he will score whenever he has the ball.  Watching Marquette go 10-11 deep this year is a real treat.  We can play aggressive and not back off because of foul trouble.  Love MU!

His confidence and maturity are probably due to his age.  He was born March 1991, almost 21.  I think he will only get better this year.  Definitely a stud.

Definitely a factor.  He's two and a half years older than Vander was as a freshman and six months younger than JFB was his SENIOR year.  I love Mayo, but he looks like an upperclassman right out of the gate partly because he should be a junior.

Mayo reminds me a lot of McNeal. Obviously not saying he's as good as Marquette's all-time leading scorer, but his game reminds me of his. Absolutely fearless and is always attacking on the offensive end. Plus they are similar in stature, both undersized scoring guards around 6'1''-6'2''.

Right now Mayo is more efficient than McNeal ever was (save that final stretch of games McNeal's junior season).

I was fully prepared to dislike Mayo.  I don't like his brother, detest "scorers", and then his first game going 2-6 was a poor first impression.  But he's been efficient since then and played well within the offense.  So far he's been one of the five best players on the team and has been "net positive" in every game but one.
