I don't know what this Pomeroy guy is smoking.  Doesn't he realize that 91% of the posters on this board who voted (including yours truly) gave MU a 30% or better chance to win this game?   ::)

Incidentally, 15 out of 276 poll voters or 5.4% gave MU a 20% chance (the % offered by the poll which was closest to Pomeroy's 17%).  Do any of you guys have any stock picks to pass on?
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

That was interesting.  I had no idea.

ya seriously...is there a good reason it isn't standardized? IIRC, in h.s. hoops the game ball was the same at every school

GGGG

It is standard.  It is standard size and weight.  And I can guaranty, from a lifetime of reffing HS games, there is no standard brand for basketballs.  Give me one that is the right size and can bounce, and I don't care if its green.

Big East vs Mountain West. Discussion over.

We have only been in the Big East 5 years. Most of our games came as an independent and McGuire was known for playing bunnies.

muhoosier260

Its standardized only in size and weight, and even those are ranges. The feel is critical though. Anyone who has shot different basketballs can tell you there is a huge difference from one ball to another, especially when you're comfortable with a certain brand. If I can tell, college bball players definitely notice.
Does college football have a specific ball?

GGGG

I know feel is very important.  I was simply commenting on your suggestion that HS balls are standard.  And I don't know how you standardize "feel" unless you have one manufacturer.

I actually think UW using a different basketball is a big deal. Anything that makes your opponent less confortable is an advantage. However, I think it was an Illinois game last year where the teams played with a womens ball for over 7 minutes, before someone figured it out.

That's f*cking crazy. Were they all drunk?

I think  if unc wins we have no chance but if UW wins we win Saturday, or at least have a much better shot.

One has nothing to do with the other. Win or lose against unc, Wisconsin will be fired up and ready to play Saturday.

And yet Henry Sugar voted that he was 30% confident that Marquette would win this game.  Oh well, just another victim of the availability heuristic, I guess!   ::)

The 2011-2012 Henry Sugar.  Now 13% more optimistic!

When we beat the Badgers at the Kohl Center in 2007, they were coming off a beat down at Duke. So I don't think the game tonight means a whole lot. I'm interested to see the Badgers shoot against the athletes of UNC. Granted it's an away game, I think it will give us a better idea of how Wisconsin fares against an athletic team.
