silverback

George Thompson is a legendary player at MU.

Kent Summerfeld has been bringing us beloved MU basketball and Milwaukee Brewers baseball for years.

...

But, if I have to listen to these two call every game that Homer and Mac are doing on TV, I'm going to climb Marquette Hall with a rifle...Wow.

MUBasketball

Kent was terrible. Yikes. Never heard a guy trip over his words more on the radio.

LA

The coverage was pretty brutal. They sounded like a team that typically covers high school games.

Kent's different pronounciations of our opponent tonight....

Nor-fork State
Nor-falk State
Noh-folk State

and every so often...

Nor-folk State

That was the only thing keeping me interested when Marquette when on the big run in the end.  Does Kent have another way to pronounce Norfolk in him?

Haha, classic. I was pulling my hair out listening to him. In all of his different versions, I dont remember hearing Norfolk. Glad he pieced it together at least a few times.

Did you also hear him mention that MU played "Mount St. Helen's" on Friday night?

Yeah, I heard they "blew their top" at the way we ran up the score.   ;D

That reminds me .. a friend of mine went to a small college in Minnesota .. at some point, he had the opportunity to do the basketball game on the college radio station.

Said it was excruciating trying to keep up with the game play, and occasionally they'd get caught up in the action and would forget to say anything, then the team would score and all the radio broadcast was silence, then "ohhh yeah!!!!" .. then they'd realized they forgot to tell the audience anything that happened.

My favorite in depth analysis from George years ago was this:

"What Marquette needs to do this time down the floor, is put the ball in the basket"

Warrior of Law

Even UWM gets Darren Sutton for their TV broadcasts. There needs to be some serious consideration put into improving the product.  The game experience is great but the broadcasts don't keep up.

Is the Big Unit still unemployed???  (Just kidding...)

That's an insult to Bob Brainerd and other broadcasting professionals.  Kent Sommerfeld is an engineer...I don't know how he got thrown into the play-by-play role last night, but that is not his area of expertise or training.  I hope that if Homer moves to TV again they will put a real play-by-play person in there.
The shaka sign, sometimes known as "hang loose", is a gesture of friendly intent often associated with Hawaii and surf culture.

Agreed.  Did not hear the play-by-play as I was at the game.  But, the post-game comments by KS were really weak.

I'm thinking that someone else was supposed to do the broadcast and backed out.

Norfolk cheer (to demonstrate the correct pronunciation):

    Our girls don't smoke,
    Our girls don't drink,
    Norfolk, Norfolk, Norfolk!

Don't Krause and Mac usually do the TV with Homer and George on the radio? I was surprised to see Homer doing TV when I turned the game on.

That was apparently the only pronunciation Kent didn't use last night.

Mr. Nielsen

I think Dennis does Packers pre-game coverage for the radio.

Kent not a play by play guy, it's not his job. It's only one game versus Norfolk State.

Becuase of the Packer game, their usual go to guys were unavailable.  Same thing could happen with the Villanova game later this year.

Eye

Both nova games are on the four-letter family of networks.

four-letter family of networks.

Why do some people type/refer to ESPN by this? "Four-letter" takes longer to type, so it doesn't save keystrokes. "Four-letter" takes longer to say, so doesn't save any breath.

Another in a long line of pet peeves I have!

GGGG

Because its more polite than sh*t and f*ck...which are more appropriate names.

Eye

Having to accidentally watch some of their Penn State coverage in the last 10 days has served to remind me why I watch their networks for games only. Calling them the four-letter network is like Al calling the college sports governing body NC2A back in the day.

MattyWarrior

Four letter network needs some serious competition and not from CBS sports. Buzz says he doesn't read there stuff.
