"If he doesn't take UK to a final 4 in his first 4 years, he will be on the hot seat and possibly on his way out. I'm not sure a cushy job like MU would fall in his lap if he gets run out of UK (which has happened to several good coaches who take these high profile jobs)."

Well put 2002mualum.  I don't think too many people look at where those "runout" coaches have landed.  Daugherty is at SMU, Davis is at UAB, I think Guthridge retired or is out of coaching and you never hear Lavin being named as a candidate (although I think he's made it clear he is happy in TV)
Granted, all the above coaches are still coaching but landing another job with brand new facilities, plenty of national TV exposure, and on a team that is performing well in a BCS conference is very unlikely.  AFter failing to meet lofty expectations at a powerhouse school you become "tainted" goods.  It's very risky, probably better suited for somebody who would want to retire very soon...

I agree it's a big risk. It is for anyone. That's why it takes the right guy and right ego for the gig.

Personally, I think even if Crean "failed" - by failing, I mean not winning a title - at Kentucky, regardless, he'll always have the MSU job waiting for him as long as Izzo is around. The guy's from just up the road of MSU and he'd be going home. Plus, when Michigan hires Jim Harbaugh in a couple years, his wife and brother-in-law will be close. haa

As for your points about Crean getting hammered even for a 26-win season at KY. Seems that there are a lot of people hammering him for a 24 win season at Marquette. Proving that once you've tasted success, nobody is ever satisfied.

26 games is  average of wins  per yr. for tubbys tenure in cat land...idk what tc's average is but im sure it is well under that..
