I didn't realize this until I was just listening to Buzz's interview from yesterday on the Syracuse website. As of our game against Xavier, Darius Johnson-Odom has now accounted for 1,002 points in his first two seasons at Marquette. He has become the 43rd player in Marquette history to score 1,000+ points, and with one year left, will likely finish his career as one of the top 15, possibly even top 10 scorers in Marquette history.

Way to go, DJO! It's been a whirlwind two years and that's truly an amazing accomplishment for a kid that two years ago none of us knew would be so important to the program.

+1 - Fastest player to 1,000 points in MU history.  Here's to you DJO...and I hopep after tonights game DJO is sitting at about 1,032 points..as my belief is:  as DJO goes, so too does MU.  We are VERY hard to beat when DJO is shooting it well and on top of his game.

I heard Buzz say that, that can't be right though, can it? Wade only played for two years, and I'm positive that he passed the 1,000 point mark on February 9 at the Bradley center against Wake Forest because I was at the game when they made the announcement. Would have been after his 52nd game for Marquette. DJO has played 69 games. Still an amazing accomplishment, but Buzz was off on that one.

Watching DJO, Crowder, and Jimmy on the Cuse website really made me like DJO so much more.  On the court I see a confident player who is an assassin on the court, but listening to him talk he seems very humble and soft spoken.  Can't help but love a guy like that.  Thanks DJ!!

You're right Brew because I was at that game too and vividly remember Wade scoring it on a break away slam against Wake Forest.

In addition to Wade, George Thompson scored 1187 in his first two seasons.  He wasn't eligible as a frosh, but DJO didn't play at MU as a frosh--so this is apples to apples.  Dean Meminger scored 1021 in his first 2 seasons, also without a freshman year.

Then you also have to consider the number of games rather than the number of seasons--for example, Jim Chones scored 952, but only played 50 games.   David Boone, scored 921, but only played 59 games.  Give Boone 10 more games, (and Chones 19 more), and both easily crack the 1000 point barrier.

Still a great accomplishment, and hope he can continue to keep up that pace the rest of this season and next.

Besides what DJO has done on the court, when i hear him interviewed, he just seems like such a great kid/young man. DJO comes off to me as humble, hard working, and very team orientated, the type of person we should want playing for Marquette.

Thanks for clarification and background on fastest to 1000 points in MU history...on Wade, Meminger, Thompson, et al.

Nonetheless...just look at those names on that list!!  Pretty elite company in the MU basketball community.

GO DJO!!

Wade score 571 points his first year, a total of 32 games
He needed 479 points his second year to hit 1000.

He scored his 479th point was against Wake Forest in his 52nd game for MU as he registered 18 points in a win over Wake.

DJO hit 1000 points in his 69th game at MU

DJO isn't even second fastest in the club (here I am picking on MU and Buzz again  ::)

George Thompson had 1,187 points in his first 58 games...not sure when he passed 1000 as I don't have the box scores

Dean Meminger score 1021 points in his first 58 games....I believe he passed 1000 in his 57th game
