Worst part is that the game was so early, ruining the entire day, not just the evening.

The sad part is that I think I'm recovering more quickly than the last soul crushing loss, which means I expect MU to find a way to lose these.  Now the window is just bigger.  18 points with 5 to go is no longer a safe bet with the MU program.

Yeah, it's amazing how cynical this team has made me.  After the 7 point run in 20 some secs I kind of expected to lose, and we were up 11.  That's pathetic.

I got the same feeling after that 7-point run that I got in Game 7 of the Cubs/Marlins NLCS. Cubs were up 5-3 in the game, but after losing Game 6 in heartbreaking fashion, I knew that despite the lead it felt like it would all come undone.

In 2003, I told my then-girlfriend "We're up, but we're the Cubs, we're going to lose." Today, I told my now-girlfriend "We can't lose when we were up 18 with under 6 to play, can we?" I hate that feeling.

Being a Twins fan, I've been broken in.   In the first game (Game #1), 7th inning, the Yankees took the lead and I knew the 3 game series was over.

So MU games are par for the course.  My wife and I often discuss the final minute or so, prefacing the conversation with "well, how do we blow it this time?"

Up 18 I turned to my wife and said "do you believe we're up 18 and cruising after destroying 11th ranked ND earlier this week?"

I should've known better.

I was given a lesson in what really matters by my 3-year old son who was watching the game with me.  I got so upset that he said "Daddy, you're scaring me."

Turned off the TV, played with my son and haven't thought about the game until now.

I hear you. I did that once and now won't watch games with the kids. I DVR them and watch later. Also helps my blood pressure to know the score ahead of time, but if I know we lose it makes it too hard to go back and watch it.

An honest and open dialogue and the willingness to experiment is important in one's marriage :D

Not coping. feel like Buzz kicked me in the balls.

I am really pissed. There is no excuse for this meltdown, and we better not see another In Buzz I trust for a long time. There will be reminders about this fiasco, lest we forget.
I thought you were dead. Willie lives rent free in Reekers mind. Rick Pitino: "You can either complain or adapt."

I rewatched the end of the Stanford, Missouri, and Washington games and I now feel how bad it is to be an MU fan.

Watched my son's team up 15 at halftime and they extended it in the 4th period to win by 26...that helped.  The coach never let them let up and continued to run the offense.  This was a CYO coach mind you.

Did you criticize Coach K when he let the air out of the ball against Maryland last Sunday?

Markusquette

Green Bay's win pretty much cheered me all the way up.

The game Duke won over Maryland 71-64?

karavotsos

Yes.  That game.  Point: you're not criticizing a strategy.   You're criticizing whether a team wins or loses.  Duke took a number of bad shots because they ran the clock down.  UM was unable to capitalize, and they lost.  It can't just be a bad strategy to run down the clock - even if it means to take a bad shot- if Duke did it in a much closer game.  What did MU and Buzz do that was not smart?  Aside from not winning?  Why was it not smart, or unorthodox to take the air out of the ball?  Aside from the fact that it did not work in this game.  Why would you not say Coach K was not smart for sitting on the ball in that game, even though they won.

To answer your question, I did not watch that game. I'd be curious if they started to run their offense with 5 seconds left in the shot clock for multiple possessions in the game.  Or, if coming out of a timeout, they put the ball into their least effective offensive threat (aka, our equivalent of JC) to take a wild shot with 2 seconds left on the shot clock...again, this coming out of a timeout.

Now you've gone and destroyed a perfectly good emotional and agenda driven argument with that pesky logic of yours.

No he didn't.

I knew something didn't smell right so let's actually use logic, or facts to take a look.

Marquette was up 18 points today.  In that Duke vs Maryland game, the LARGEST lead the entire game was 7 points by Duke.  How the heck are these two games even being compared.

I didn't watch the game, but one of my VP colleagues is a Duke graduate and I emailed him tonight about this so called "taking the air out of the ball" charge and he called it totally bunk.  Duke was trailing by 6 points in the second half and went on a run of 14-2 to take a 46 to 40 lead in the first 7 minutes of the half.  They then went into a 3 or 4 minute drought by missing several three pointers and several LAYUPS.  No stall or taking the air out of the ball at all per this avid Dukie fan.

In fact, as evidence he noted that to get off their shooting drought, Coach K had his players driving and getting fouled. For several minutes most of their points came from the free throw line, which means they were ATTACKING the hoop.

He said the game was still a 2 possession game with about 5 minutes to play and it's absurd to suggest anyone was taking the air out of the ball only up 5 or 6 points.

I didn't see it, but that's the way an avid Duke fan saw it.

Curious....after reading your pro, objective MU posts....when MU played Louisville in 2005....aka the Francisco Garcia game...we were up 11 with 5 minutes to play....how do you think Crean handled that game?
