I mean seriously? This is getting ridiculous. The last 3 NCAA tourney games against Wash, Stanford, and Missouri. Hell, even Juan Felix and Alabama can be considered heartbreak city, but I'm not sure MU even lead in that game. I could keep going on of course.

318 in "Luck" this year.
310 last year.
200 in 2009.

According to Pomeroy.

MU B2002

Is this because good or bad, we simply play to the level of our competition?

Yes.  It's sickening to always hear "we're underdogs", "every game will come down to the final one or two possessions", us against the world bs.  I wish we'd hear a little Rex Ryan or Raheem Morris confidence for a change so it's not surprising to the team that they can beat anybody and it doesn't have to be decided in the final 20 seconds.

NickelDimer

This is an excellent question.  Do fans of other College BBall teams feel that their team suffers the most?

I watch a lot of basketball and I don't see other teams routinely lose heartbreakers like us, but I'm not a fan of those teams, so it's hard to say.
No Finish Line

GGGG

I'd rather be a fan of this team than a team like Milwaukee.  So yeah while we do suffer our share of heartbreak, we at least make the NCAA regularly and are playing in one of the top conferences in the country.

And that's before factoring in todays loss.

If someone can just show me another team that had an 18 point lead with 5 to go and lost, then I might feel alittle better. Those other buzzer beater losses were bad, but not like this one.

Awesome and interesting research.  Wish the statistics were more detailed, but I know that is impossible.  Halftime deficits are one thing, up 18 with five to go is another.   I still don't feel good.

I found the stat you're looking for and made it its own post because it was that significant

When an opponent is alone, under the basket as time runs out, like today, like Villanova in BE tourney, it is not luck.

Mr. Nielsen

Didn't Va. Tech suffer so much heartbreak two or three years ago?

334 in luck now in Pomeroy after the U of L game.

This does not bother me.  Luck is zero sum.  At some point we will be the luckiest team in America to balance this out.  Hopefully it is this year and not next year.

I don't know.

Isn't it a little strange that MU would be so low in the "luck" ranking for consecutive years?

willie warrior

I sure don't know how they determine the Luck Factor, and probably wouldn't understand iy anyhow. That seems pretty subjective.

I believe that Coaching and talent have more to do with winning than "luck"

The luck thing is a crutch.

Is this just D1? Aren't there only like 336 D1 schools?

Also, does this measurement correlate well with choke jobs? In other words, are our incredibly number of choke jobs over the course of the program deemed "unlucky"?
